Forums - Microsoft Discussion - The next Microsoft dashboard looks like PSN had a baby with Xbox Live . It looks good.

My favorite was the 360 blades. I thought the original XBO interface was fine but the way it is now is overly complicated. The next one can't be worse.

I just hope they find one and stick to it. Whenever I get used to one, it changes. What is this? The fourth time?

Actually, the psn style is simpler and more minimalist. Trust me, you'll be able to navigate easier. It might not be as appealing At first but it will grow on you for sure.

I'm hoping so. Things are too complicated for the casual, now. Even me, I've been using the Xbox One for years and the current version is sometimes a chore to use. I always fumble around before getting it to go "home".

Can you link me to a video?

I remember the original 360 dashboard, that brings back some good memories!! But yeah, I have a hard time having to constantly adjust myself.

Looks worse than the one now.
What's the point of this update like seriously the content blocks are sorta cool and everything but why didn't they just let us pin clubs and friends? Also there's no way to show that there are content block, no indicator at all. The guide look over complicated. We had a simple guide when you scroll up and down for friends and achievements and music. Very simple but now you have yo open tabs upon tabs to just do that. The guide doesn't event take up full side of its screen. The community sections looks like a mess. Everything is clustered together. The community now was perfect when you scroll down and know which post comes from what community and friends ,and scroll right to see the trending.
Microsoft needs to stop changing the UI. The one now is way better than that abomination.

I used to hate that about MS Word.

They would constantly change icons, and move stuff around (or use new words/names for funktions).

To a degree each new windows version has some of this too, its just annouying when they seemingly do it for no reason.

Microsofts minimalist style was inspired by Apple. Instead of using more shapely minimalist forms micorsoft uses boxes. They try to liken themselves to their closets competiton. It's the same way they are trying to replicate apples trchnological synergy between products into a lifestyle product.

What are you basing this statement on? Their current logos? Because Microsoft has been using flat, minimalist software design well before it was adopted in iOS 7, for example.

nice..now my kids should be able to find their games easier previous xbox one interface was overcomplicated

I've been using this new UI all day I I don't understand where the comparison with PS4 comes from as it's nothing like it in my view. I have mixed feelings on it so far but it has potential and it's very fast/responsive to flick through the Guide tabs but as this is only the Alpha and the release is scheduled for Autumn probably just before the X1X release I think we will see a lot of feedback given to improve and change it for the better.

It looks like a hybrid of PSN to me. I'll explain why:

- Simplistic Horizontal rows  options and tiles, leaving space to actually see the background. The only difference is Microsoft split up the rows into two sections. One above and one all the way below on he bottom of the screen. It makes it easier not only to show you what you have once you get used to it but also to market things.

-You can access a horizontal options menu which gives you access to many things. Microsoft has been transitioning towards this ever since the snap app was taken down. Its basically like PSNs quick menu but with all the same options from the Snap app. Quick menu allows you to access your friends much quicker  and to access alternative options. Its just has more options and is more customizable. Xbox has the better version though imho.

-You can access your games collection similarly to PSN (except the options are  on the opposite side of the screen  on the bottom row or on top)  The PSN store is on the far left and the games library is on the far right. On Xbox Live its the exact opposite on the top menu. Hopefully you can neatly create folders for your games like PSN as well soon.

I need to look more into the content blocks section. Cant wait to get my hands on it.

Ok fair enough I still can't see it though and I have played on both my Xbox and PS4 today, If I had to compare it to anything I'd say it's looking more like the 360 direction.

I'm a preview member but my Xbox playtime has diminished a lot since the release of the Switch. Hopefully I have the update, too.

Finally got this update this morning and it's spectacular! I love it!!

So many options, too. I'm gonna play around with it. It almost feels like getting a new console.
