Square Enix just announced Dragon Quest XI shipments + digital sales have passed 3 million across both PS4 and 3DS. No breakdown by platform given. But for its first 2 days, according to the sales trackers, the 3DS version sold through 1.1 million and the PS4 version sold through 950k.

Nice, PS4 is becoming a Dragon quest paradise with the announcement now of Dragon Quest Builders 2, Dragon Quest 1-3, Dragon Quest Heroes 1-2, along with this and DQ10.

I don't know about DQ 2 and DQ 3 (first time I heard about them here), but if you beat DQ11 on either PS4 or 3DS, you'll be able to download DQ1 for free on the respective store.

For the PS4 version (at least) there seems to be some specific things you need to do that involves spoilers, so I didn't look into the details.
So far this is only confirmed for Japan since DQ11 hasn't been released in the west yet.

Dispite there being so many more 3DS than PS4 units in japan.

The PS4 version is a differnt versions, with a few elements the 3DS lacks, and radically differnt graphics.

It appears people want that.

As a DQ fan if I had the option I would choose the 3DS version though. Thanks to the stupid decision of making the PS4 version turn based instead of round based like it is on the 3DS and like it should be.
