I will say something.

DQ11 looks better than BOTW.

DQ11 runs at stable 30fps unlike BOTW.

DQ11 is not an action game so it does not need 60fps unlike BOTW.

PS4 Pro exists, so consumers have a choice in performance and looks unlike with Switch.

Still pitiful both for the game and PS4.

On the otherhand the physics/CPU stuff going on in DQ11 likely aren't as hardware hungry as BoTW's, and since it is the CPU which is the major bottleneck of modern consoles, it makes a little more sense that a game which is CPU bound will suffer more in terms of framerate than one which is not.

PS4 can do much better than DQ11, but then again maybe the game had different priorities as far as financial resources are concerned. Not every game needs to push the boundaries of a system's hardware. Who knows? Maybe SE will release a patch that improves image quality for both PS4 and PS4Pro.

That's why I said it's still pitiful. DQ11 looks good but there is nothing in there that should make it run 30fps. It's both badly programmed and stuck on a weak platform. Unlike BOTW which is just stuck on weak platform.

But overall DQ11 is the better product. That is why nobody is complaining.

A lot of people hated Zelda because 900p 30 fps targets. It was said to not be next gen and considered unplayable by some people.

Dragon Quest however, nobody is saying a word. Hmmmmm

I want to thumbs up this post.

Theres better looking games running at 1080p on PS4, seems like Japanese devs dont know how to optimize that great. Nioh, Nier and this dont look anywhere near as good as something like Witcher 3, Horizon Zero Dawn, Doom, Uncharted.

And yet, people wouldnt want a DQ that had HZD like graphics I suspect... it has its own artstyle.

What does that have to do with anything? They were comparing resolution

Unreal Engine 4 is a disaster in terms of performance ... (Should've just used the Decima Engine like kojima did.)

900p on Base vs 1728p on Pro? That's a bigger resolution jump than usual.

Looked good, I like the art style as always on the DQ franchise. I have no issues with 900p or 30fps, as long as gameplay is great I really dont care if it's 720, 900 or 1080.

Did not like the horse running animation though, that looked pretty bad hah.

From what I can remember SE said that they would develop three different versions for this game.. so that makes me wonder what the Switch version will be like.

The differnce would be so small... hell the differnce between 900p and 1728c is pretty small (judgeing from the youtube video).

The "artstyle" and simple textures, limit how big a impact simply scaleing up the resolution would have.

And a DQ game with more complex graphics wouldnt "feel" like a DQ game.

"What does that have to do with anything?"

The person I quoted used exsamples of games with more complex graphics and texture work as his argument.

Nioh,Nier,Witcher3,HZD,Doom,Uncharted,... all have more demanding graphics, and run higher resolutions.

My point was, even if they could do "better" a totally differnt looking game wouldnt be a DQ game.

And like I said, the differnt in the Digitalfoundry video between 900p & 1728c is kinda small (atleast it looked that way to me).

Its the artstyle, it doesnt really allow for drastically noticable differnces from just scaleing the resolution up abit.

If its 900p or 1080p in this game is a big meh.

But that's a fallacy, they never said anything about DQ looking like HZD or Doom, they just said that better looking games with objectively more sophisticated and complex graphics have better resolution outputs. They said nothing about how DQ11 should look like the Witcher. Also, the original comment was critiquing Japanese devs. They were putting Nier, Ni-oh and DQ11 on the same league, and criticizing those devs.

The difference isn't small which DigitalFoundry themselves pointed out. I watched the video fullscreened with different resolutions and it looked quite big to me. From my understanding if you're watching the video at 1080p, you can't tell the difference well because the video is converting down. Youtube videos aren't a good indication but you could at least upscale the resolution of the video which should make a difference in quality even if you don't have a display above 1080p. That's just from my understanding though.

Anyways how big of a difference you think it makes is just an opinion, when really the point is that the optimization is worse.

I wonder what I'll get as a PS4 Pro user on a 1080p screen... still haven't watched the video yet (Only just remembered while laid in bed, lol), but was anything said about it? I'll make sure to watch the video after work tomorrow... but honestly with how nice and clean the game looks from screenshots and trailers, playing it at 900p seems like it'll be fine.

Besides, I've always seen it as; Art Style > Graphics > Resolution

... And for framerate, 30fps is fine for me, it's a turn based RPG, not a balls to the wall action packed FPS game which requires insane reactions, lol :P

There will be downsampling to 1080p on the Pro version. The guy on Digital Foundry forgot to check if the Pro version downsamples to 1080p. Someone on GAF asked about that and he pointed out that there were checkerboarding artifacts on the Pro version on a 1080p screen.

900p/30fps on PS4? The Switch version is gonna get downgraded heavily.
