Sounds like your dog is going to be put down... sorry... generally when a dog shows violence to other people or pets there isn't much in the way of leniency... especially if the other party gets the cops involved...

The truth is, it's not my dog. It's my dads dog and I'm just trying to figure out what he should do. I'm leaving in a month anyways so I'm trying to understand the situation. I'm sorry if I'm not taken back by a pet being killed. My grandparents, who lived in the mountains, had cats go missing all the time when I was younger because of coyotes and other predators.

I'm thinking he should get rid of the dog.

If the guy would have shot the dog, I would have been upset but I would understand.

You should definitely do your best to make amends to your neighbor, though I'm not sure what you can do since the cat is dead, buying him a new one, at least this soon, isn't likely to help. You also should stop using the gate to exit your yard, and use another door to exit your house instead. You might should consider putting one of those shock colors on him and setting up an invisible shock fence around your yard too, as an additional countermeasure in case he does get out of the fence. 

If my dad doesn't want to get rid of the dog. I'll have him consider a shock fence.

I'm not agreeing with the guy, I'm just not agreeing with you either.

Doesn't Stephen Hawking have a dog? And he's litterally like the smartest person in the world.

What I'm saying is what the hell does your IQ have to do with the pet you own? What if you own a dog and a cat?

I think a few don't realize that if a dog kills a cat or an other small dog, it's very capable and not completely unlikely of killing a toddler or hell any child up to 6 years or so. After all they aren't hunting for food but for fun.
I don't think anyone wants to be that guy that says "he wouldn't harm anyone (except cats)" only to find out their dog killed a baby.

That cats might kill other people's rabbits or birds is completely irrelevant as they don't kill humans.
