Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 Pro Owners, is it worth it?

Get a PS4 Pro?

I had a ps4 pro when it launched. Eventually sold it and got a slim bundle that had a really good discount instead. The difference from a regular ps4 to the pro was pretty meh to me since there isn't much standardization as to what you will get and it is heavily left to the devs as far as effort goes. Most, at least from what I can tell, just do the basics and call it a day. So your milage will vary.

The arguments and other etc that I made and people made against me are in here:

what makes ps4 pro worth it for me is boost mode. You get a better frame rate even on games that don't have a patch.

Definitely. Not just for the higher res, but also for the HDR. It makes the game look gorgeous. Also boost mode makes sure games without Pro updates have stable frame-rates. I'm happy with my purchase.

HDR is available on all PS4s.

If you have a 4k tv, yes. Other than that, no.

I'm pretty happy with my Pro purchase. Even though not all games are true 4k, the image quality is still superior than the standard PS4 (2160p checkerboard, 1800p, 1440p, better graphical options, ect.).

The Pro also has a boost mode. It makes frames per second more stable or better on PS4 games without a Pro patch (for example, Assassin's Creed Unity now runs at a smooth 30 fps).

There seems to be a lot of threads of this nature. As always, we don't know you as well as you know yourself, so you'd be the best source of advice.

It isn't a huge difference, but for only 100 more you might as well.

it seems as if the majority of games don't support true 4k

Checkerboard upscaling should still improve image quality, even though it's not native 4k. Of course native 4k would be better, but there's still some improvement. As far as I know, Pro can also improve other visual aspects of games, such as framerate (The Last Guardian is an excellent example of this, I believe). Whether Pro is worth the extra cost for you probably depends on how much you value those improvements.

Even just 1440p is a clearly noticeable improvement and worth the extra cost.

you also need to take into account that a Pro always comes with a 1TB drive so it needs to be compared to the 1TB slim's price.

Boost mode and faster loading times are even worth it even if one only has got a 1080p TV imho.

As we stated in the other thread already....it's pretty obvious you don't own a 4K TV so your opinion doesnt really relate to the guy's situation.

While that is true you only get HDR with 4K TVs. Why run a 4K TV with a Slim?! that's kinda stupid as the built in upscaler will make the image quality look worse even than on a regular 1080p TV.
