Forums - Microsoft Discussion - How much does XB1X need to sell for it to be a success?

Other than hard-core Xbox fans who must have the latest Xbox One X console, I can't see them sustaining sales in early 2018. This will have the added side affect of affecting normal Xbox One sales. Lose / lose long term for the Xbox One brand. Bu the good news is all those games will be available on PC too, so you don't need to buy an Xbox One at all!! Did I mention lose/lose for the Xbox brand?

That's a statement from IHS Markit analyst Piers Harding-Rolls.

You probably won't find anything googling this. There's little to no chance that any Microsoft representative would give a specific estimate like that when they deliberately hide their Xbox numbers, as it could also potentially give people a way to figure out how much the rest of the Xbox One family is selling.

My bad.

On a different note, looking at the trouble Nintendo is having producing Switch consoles for launch, I wonder if Microsoft has and production issues. I know Nintendo's problem was Apple using a lot of the same resources that they needed. Could the XBO X have similar whoas? People predicting a few million will sell when it's possible a few million can't even be produced.

Whatever it is, it's sure to reach it. With games like Crackdown 3, and Super Lucky Tale, nothing will stop the most powerful console on earth from beating sales records for 4k devices.

Yeah, I doubt it. I dont think it is going to sell well at all. Reason being, it is a mid gen refresh like the PS4 Pro and games need to run on the regular xbox as well. It is an overpriced console with good specs that wont get used much.

Whatever it ends up selling in the mid and long term, technophiles and hardcore XB fans will give it good or very initial sales (within what supplies will allow), and if it won't take off later, you can be sure these sales will be what MS will always boast about, probably skating over their limited time frame. Ah, how reaussiringly predictable is MS PR!

For 1 year they will praised X1X as the best midgen upgrade on Xbox history (ignoring the slim versions of course, because they are marginal improvements)

Some Trump like double speak marketting incoming about it being the best, no other mid-gen upgrade was like it, why would I lie to you, it realy is fabulous (or some other superlative)?

My take for first full year.
1-1.5 million= ok but on the bad side
1.5-2 million= ok but on the good side
2-2.5 million= good
2.5-3 million = great
3-3.5 million = fantastic
Anything more is unrealistic for a 500$ box. It's also near impossible to guess lifetime sales, as we don't yet know if it will play next gen games.

Halo MCC will sell 5+ million copies(including digital)

halo 5 will sell 10 million copies(including digital)

x1 will pass ps4 in USA, and UK.

The Xbox One X is selling at a loss. I dont think this is about success unless it cuts down the custs of the part on the console in the long run. Being that the hardware in it is going to be consumed by a smaller amount of people, I doubt it will be profitable, but the numbers will definitely be great for the price.

That's pure speculation, actually Phil has said that it is not being sold at a loss.

LOL...if you think I am speculating, look it up. Just type "Xbox One X sellig at a loss" in google.  Either that or its just not profitable in general. At mid gen this is a stupid plan. Early in the gen is fine, but at mid gen, no bueno.

It might sell at a higher ratio than the Pro does, but it will probably still sell less overall. As for it being a success, I suppose selling at least 1:5 like the Pro will do fine considering that's the only reference point for mid gen upgrades we have.
