Forums - Microsoft Discussion - How much does XB1X need to sell for it to be a success?

XB1 is gonna win Nov and maybe Dec NPD, that's gonna be a success at least.

I think they went on record and said something like 50,000 this year. Or maybe it was 500,000.

Thats impossiburu! It's def gonna sell more than 500k this year, maybe a million or 2-3. Sales of this thing wil be very frontloaded, all the hardcore fans will get it at launch.

Simple - it has to significantly bump Xbone sales up YoY for an entire year or more.

Currently Xbone is down YoY a lot.

Unfortunately, I expect it to end up like the XboneS, do amazing for awhile, and then tank.

I'll try to find where I read 50,000 (it was it 500,000) at two or three million is probably impossible. I'm gonna buy one but it's marketed to a very select market:

-Xbox fans. Possibly the smallest group of fans amongst the "Big 3"

-Xbox fans with 4K TVs. An even smaller group.

-Xbox fans with 4K TVs who are willing to pay over twice as much for a graphical boost in games that run absolutely fine on PC and normal Xbox Ones.

The XBO X isn't just competing with other consoles. It's competing with PC and itself. Anybody expecting it to sell millions is setting themselves up for disappointment. And if Microsoft publicly said such a high number, they've set themselves up for ridicule.

Five hundred thousand. Lifetime.

I just googled "Xbox One X 500,000" and this is the first thing that popped up:

"Xbox enthusiasts will pay significant sums to get hold of the latest and greatest," he said, forecasting Microsoft will sell 500,000 Xbox One X consoles during the fourth quarter."

Not even sure if that's the article I read. I think it was in my news app on my smart phone. Pretty modest expectations.

I see the term thrown around a lot. But what portion of Xbox One sold needs to be an X for you to consider it a success?

1:5?
1:4?
1:3?

Keep in mind that 1:5 PS4s sold is a Pro, and Sony said it sells a bit above what they expected.

What do Microsoft expect for X? And will it meet their expectations?

I assume sales initially will be much higher than just 1:5...a lot of hardcore fans who were duped about the low power of X1 will replace theirs with an X1X during the first months. If MS, other than Sony, can keep up with the demand I even think 1-2 Million are possible till the end of the year. If X1S sales continue to slow down as seen recently the rate could well be 1:3 or so, even though some moms will still go for cheap X1Ss for their kids.

It remains to be seen if the demand after the first 3 months will keep up...I assume it won't until the inevitable first price drops. If games like RDR2 though will show a big leap in comparison to PS4Pro it might still do well. If not it will have a hard time agains a 150 Dollar cheaper PS4 Pro.

A quantity that makes them stop losing market for Sony so 1:1?

That's a statement from IHS Markit analyst Piers Harding-Rolls.

You probably won't find anything googling this. There's little to no chance that any Microsoft representative would give a specific estimate like that when they deliberately hide their Xbox numbers, as it could also potentially give people a way to figure out how much the rest of the Xbox One family is selling.

My bad.

On a different note, looking at the trouble Nintendo is having producing Switch consoles for launch, I wonder if Microsoft has and production issues. I know Nintendo's problem was Apple using a lot of the same resources that they needed. Could the XBO X have similar whoas? People predicting a few million will sell when it's possible a few million can't even be produced.

Whatever it is that lets them turn a profit on it? I don't know. These upgraded consoles are a new thing so it's difficult to predict at all. Hmm. if ms manages to sell half of what the PS4 pro sold then I'll consider that a success for mx as far the upgrades go.

60million units!

Whatever it is, it's sure to reach it. With games like Crackdown 3, and Super Lucky Tale, nothing will stop the most powerful console on earth from beating sales records for 4k devices.

Yeah, I doubt it. I dont think it is going to sell well at all. Reason being, it is a mid gen refresh like the PS4 Pro and games need to run on the regular xbox as well. It is an overpriced console with good specs that wont get used much.
