Forums - Sales Discussion - Media Create/Famitsu/Dengeki - July 24th - 30th 2017

So according to mediacreate the sales of the consoles for july are

272,280 for Switch
265,914 for 3DS
219,417 for PS4

I said that July was going to be the month for the 3DS but I didn´t expect the Switch to sell like this in it´s second Splatoon week :/ Although it almost win :)

Wow, 270k is pretty impressive for a non-holiday month! I hope Switch can keep up with demand now that Nintendo has seemingly started to ship more.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

So, I guess DQ is still the king in Japan. This makes FF's sales more disappointing, but I don't know if anything can stop the downward slope in sales that the series has.

Why though?

If Famitsu numbers are any indication then digital sales on Nintendo devices are around 10% and on PS4 15-30%.

Combined digital numbers should be way above 300k.

That's too much for the kind of game DQXI is (singleplayer JRPG aimed at a casual audience). 10% is rare on the 3DS. It certainly isn't the average. The average is closer to 5% and I predict below that for DQXI. For example Yokai-Watch 3 had a digital ratio of like 2-3%, Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 of 3-4% and Pokemon Sun/Moon of 2-3% according to Famitsu.

And same goes for the PS4 version although the average for the console is higher. I'm thinking below 10% for the PS4.

It's pretty interesting but there are certain IP that really don't get a high digital adoption rate. Part of it (I think) has to do with that typically more hardcore players are the ones to buy digitally, but it's a market with a low ceiling when taking into account a full $80-90 title. People want to get the copy for their collection of the rest of the series.

Really happy for DQXI's great sales, hopefully it has decent legs. It would've been cool if PS4 reached 100k but at least it got close. Really surprised by the 3DS's numbers considering everyone and their moms own the thing in Japan. Switch numbers are just insane, I guess the Splatoon effect is still going on or something lol.

DQ or FF downward slope?

Imo I think SE are happy.  FF15 sold superb WW and DQ11 launched superb in Japan. Both series WW should keep up to standard although with digital,  Asian,  Western and then switch version sales I think DQ may grow nicely.

Hmm, it may be a bit too much to expect out of them!

Famitsu sell-through

DQXI 3DS – 60~80%
DQXI PS4 – 80~100%

Wow. Ps4 version will probably have good digital sales to make up for the lack of stock.

Great week of course, hopefully this gives Japan a good boost and stop the downward trend.
