Honestly, I think sony should have just gone along with the cross platform thing. 1st with MC and now Rocket League. It kinda just makes them look like the bad guy here.

The rl info is old news.

And a bad guy to a minority on forums?

No, to gamers in general really. Rather than join in with everyone to allow cross play among many devices, they rather keep to their closed off environment and I suppose use it as another means to buy a PS4. That doesn't sound very good to me.

That's like saying to shop at best buy, you need a targets card. To buy at amazon you need to first get a power up card from gamestop.

It is just another of MS desperate tactics.

IF Sony was doing this and MS was refusing people would be looking at Sony as bullying MS.

That said - you can't say either side is the "bad guy" since they have both done this. I mean FF14 is STILL not on xbox one.

Actually, it sounds more like you're able to use a card not relative to that brand, but in exchange, you have to sign up with their program... minus the spending part. Does it cost money to set up an Xbox account?

I don't see it as that way. It just looks more like closing the gap between gamers of different devices. And if it was the other way around, I'd criticize MS for doing the same.

And if both have done it to some degree, they have both been in the wrong.

I really hope they bring the update to the ps4 version. My kids have minecraft on xbox one but my niece has it on ps4. They are always asking me if there's a way they can play together online. This would solve this issue for me.

They can already through co-op remote play. If you have a laptop or pc you can remote play your niece's ps4 while she can join co-op on her end with another account. That is, if your niece trusts you enough with her psn login ;)

They'll be playing in split-screen though (yet useful to see where the other one is), the remote player has to be the one with the psn login (and owner of minecraft if it's a digital version), while the player on the actual ps4 has to be someone else. Plus you'll need to use a good old phone, skype or equivalent to be able to hear eachother. If you really want to, it's possible. There are (non official) solutions to stream your pc to the xbox one as well, so you could even remote play your niece's ps4 from your xbox one.

XBox One has game streaming as well, so the reverse is probably possible too, however I don't know how xbox one handles local co-op during game streaming. ps4 simply connects the rest of the controllers straight to the console and the rest of the players have to play on the console.

..sounds like too much of a hassle honestly

nah, the majority of gamers would need to care and alas, where are they?

And please, Sony has has cross platform play between their own devices and PC since the PS3 days, and still continue to do so.

And lets not forget it wasnt too long ago when MS had a no crossplay policy in effect too. Just because they are falling behind they are pushing for it as it makes the PS4 less lucrative to buy if you dont need one for multiplay games (of which MS marketing pull for zero MP focussed titles).  Lets not act like MS is doing this solely for gamers. They are also doing it for their own financial and competetive benefit.

Well, I'm sure they are there. I have heard some people were upset about this from videos talking about the subject and the opinion on this has been negative overall. When I heard about cross play, I thought it was a cool idea and there is a good place for cross play.

So, does it make it fine that Sony allows it for PC, but not for other devices? I don't think it excuses the current action they are taking.

And honestly, I don't think Sony allowing cross play would really affect their sales at all. It would be trivial at most. There are many reasons to buy a PS4 besides playing MC online with your PS4 buddies, and to hold back for a reason like this just seems really dumb. And I don't really see how this would be help MS anyways.

How are my fellow Xbox friends enjoying FFXIV?
Oh? Microsoft denied cross play at the start of the gen?

I am wondering as to why they haven't, really - it's something like making Lego exclusive to a certain kind of glove... it could be huge for their ecosystem focus!

DonFerrari said:

Could... but since MS decided not to they probably saw that the net gain on Minecraft 2 being X1 exclusive wouldn't be a big enough system seller to recover 100M SW loss.

Most probably the main reason is that Notch sold Mojang to MS after having stricken a deal with Sony for Minecraft ports to its platforms, so it wasn't possible anymore to make Minecraft totally exclusive, as such deals are binding even if one of the companies changes owner. You can tell quite a strong deal exists from the fact that the publisher of Minecraft on Sony platforms is  neither Mojang nor Microsoft, but Sony itself.

And that deal have all future versions of the game including Minecraft 2? I guess not.

But you said making it only on X1, so I answered that MS would lose much more selling Minecraft only on X1 than they would gain from the "system seller" status... even removing only PS4 version of the table, 17M sales less would hardly be recovered by what the x1 sales of people that really want to play Minecraft on a console that would buy a 300 USD console because of it.

You said MAJORITY and you have nothing to sustain that so you are moving the goal post.

No, I didn't really say anything of the sort. I just said this is a good opportunity to connect players more, but Sony decided to keep their base divided from the rest of the community.

Sir, FXIV released on the PS4 but not on Xbone.

Could you point out the reason? Thanks.

Yes. That decision was made before we started, sire...

Rocket league has not even been released on the Switch so Technically the Xbox still isn't Cross-platform with other consoles on that game yet.

And there is a lot that can change, and just to be clear so far their are 2 games that are not Cross-platform with other consoles on PS4 one of which is being forced to operate through their own network (MC) and another that is still not released on all of the consoles (RL).

The Minecraft one I couldn't say if it will happen or not, but with Rocket league I think it will. And for those that are thinking Microsoft are all high and mighty about this just look how long it took them to change their mind about Cross-platform play with just PC, and they are still not on the same level with Playstation with that.

And again it's 2 games that are not Cross-platform across all consoles as of yet.

Edit:
