That's a very interesting move from Sony. Looking forward to see what they are going to do with it.

Whoa this is pretty big news tbh. Also really unexpected. Wonder what the nature of this acquisition is

This is a good get, Funimation has the rights to Dragon Ball, Attack on Titan and One Piece, DB is having a resurgence now with DB FighterZ and DB Super.

This is an interesting purchase I must say... wonder if Sony will want to turn some of their gaming IP's into anime shows... Gravity Rush anime anyone? :o

Oh god yes please, the little ova they put out was really good.

Anime distribution/production is incredible cheap. It doesn't make that money, only the big ones do but mostly thanks to merchandice.  Sony is mostly going for the IP's.

1. How "big / famous" is "Funimation"?

2. How much revenue / profit does Funimation have in the year?

3. Funimation ... is there also in Japan? Or only in USA?

4. Sony buys funimation. What does it bring to us / what does it mean?

5. I've heard that even more anime games on PlayStation 4 will appear in the future. Maybe own Sony-Anime in future ?

6. What do you think... how successful is this... for Sony?

nobody knows it :( ?

PS: i see this.. is this the same "Funimation" ???

"FUNimation Entertainment has acquired U.S. rights to"Your Name" (japanese: Kimi no Na wa.), the animation sensation that is currently riding high at the Japanese box office."

The film has topped the Japanese chart for nine consecutive weekends and now stands on a cumulative total of $157 million. That makes it the fifth highest grossing film of all time at the Japan box office – including local titles and imports. Analysts expect it to reach $200 million. It is distributed locally and in international sales markets by Toho. The film about a teen boy and girl who swap sexes in their dreams is directed by Makoto Shinkai. It has touched audiences not only through the contemporary story but also through the film’s finely detailed portrayal of the Japanese urban landscape. Those strengths have quickly earned Shinkai the popular label of successor to the partially retired Hayao Miyazaki.

i watch it this month :) its interesting. My favorites are "Princess Mononoke" and "The Box and the Beast". Here a "Your Name"-Picuture:
