Forums - Gaming Discussion - Today might be my last day at Nintendo *Update* I got fired!

I'm curious to hear more about your time working at Nintendo. What was it like working there, and how do they treat you well over there? Working at Nintendo sounds like it could be fun.

If I had a job that was a two hour drive away, I'd just move closer. Hopfully apple offers you the job and the pay raise you want. I know how hard it can be to find a job doing software or games. Hopefully you'll have your own company one day.

if the commute is the issue and your happy with your job.... move closer?

I can't move to Redmond it's really too expensive for me.  Thanks for the kind thoughts though. If I'd started this instead of college I could see it being a carreer. With living being as expensive as it is I need a super high paying job.

I'm happy I got to experience it. Sushi at Cafe Mario on Tuesdays is better than anywhere in the world. And my desk was topped with ergonomics. Playing on the soccerfield was really fun. Had a splatoon bbq last week with zorbs (the big balls you climb into). Company culture is sweet.

If you're more of a software guy are there any openings for NST or Retro?

If you're into software why not just apply for a software job? I've never had any problems getting a software myself. Even straight out of university.

I graduated 5 years ago and spent 4 of those years as a stay at home dad. So I've got a mean gap in my resume. Nintendo hires only the best for their games. I keep sending out resume's but alwasy get consolation letters in return. Won't give up. Just means something better is waiting.

I'm looking to go back to like a coding dojo. It costs $4000-$5000 but it has 100% placement. Just need to save for a while. I bought a $4000 motorcycle this year going to sell it now that I'm not commuting anymore.. I wish I got a job right out of college. But it's the journey and not the destination.

Success = satisfaction/ (Divided by) desire

Once you land it, you can work anywhere! I'm in my third different country now doing software devlopment.

Why don't you just speak to your boss at Nintendo. You seem to think they care for their people a lot so this may be the perfect opportunity.

Tell them what your goals are and work out a plan to work towards it. If this coding dojo helps, perhaps they would even fund it.

You never know unless you ask.

Steal some cool Nintendo swag before you go.

I got fired. At least I can scratch Nintendo and Rockstar off my bucket list. AMA time

Any chance of Nintendo / Rockstar collaboration?

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Be honest, did you get fired from Nintendo for moonlighting?

I've been commuting to Redmond all summer to do Consumer service at NOA HQ and it's getting to be too much. I'm not in my field anyway so eventually I would have to quit to get an entry level software job. As it is, I've got an interview with an apple store nearer to my house and hopeful they will give me a pay increase. I do like apple and I've been writing software with their system for a while now since college.

It's tough to walk away from a company that takes such good care of their employees. It's really above and beyond, the level that they take care of us. A very fun and rewarding place to be at. I'd love to work here my whole life, but I don't see my path here leading to a software job. Apple is just a temporary path too, but It's more convenient for getting to work and back. My commute can vary from 40 min to 2 hours depending on time of day and when summer ends it's going to rain non stop for 9 months.

I thought I'd post and share my decision before time comes to hear your thoughts on it. Feel free to share any similar experiences.

*Update

I did not get the Apple job. Also rejected in another position I interviewed at. And today I left NOA with my belongings. My manager said I was confrontational when receiving coaching. :/

Wow, that post was so pleasant to read until the update :(

Do you recall being confrontational at all? It could just be a bad manager, but it might serve you to objectively revisit your interactions with him/her and see where you might have come off as confrontational, sometimes it's merely posture, demeanor, or tone that is not consciously intended but makes others unsettled.

I hope you find something and have some money saved for the transition! Don't let the end stain your memory of a job you seemed to really enjoy and move forward with confidence! :)

Are you Stephen Bannon and is Nintendo code word for Trump's Administration?

Sorry to hear that. I hope you'll find another job soon.
