Forums - Nintendo Discussion - So... something big 'apparently' appears to be coming from Nintendo

nVidia's been trying to push external GPU setups for a long while - but they largely haven't worked out from a value proposition standpoint. They're also kind of bulky.

Now if you adopt the Tegra X1 into an external GPU - it's smaller, cheaper and still  more power-efficient than your typical external GPU. All the same, you can double the Switch performance to nearly 2 TF in this way and gain AAA support. All with a simple dock upgrade.

So how would the SoC in the dock sync/transfer the data fast enough with the SoC and the memory in the Switch? Over USB type-C ? Not fast enough!

A new dock? Naaaaaah... forget about it.

If there´s something big for the future... it would be Retro´s new project / game. They working on something but we don´t know exactly what

A more powerful dock would just be a new console with its own CPU, GPU, RAM etc. The connector does not allow for extensive sharing of components, i.e. it is not like Expresscard.

What would be the point of a better console right now? Most Nintendo games are optimized for FHD displays and Nintendo will not go for 4K now.

I can say for sure that he is 100% correct. And he is not talking about VC or another SF2 like never released title. First i am in Privat contact with smd64 and second as i mentioned before i am a member of a Brotherhood were i have met alot of brothers from the US. Some of them working for Big Companies like Nintendo. But just from the Marketing. Something big is really comming.
I would recommend to you guys to go way back to the Foxconn leak and look again and read it. And you will understand. But dave is wrong with 2017. It is 2018.

If true, I wouldn't care. I buy my consoles every 4-5 years when there is an entirely new system.

Cloud gaming service that allows or high end titles to be played on the system, i.e. Rainway tied in with a service component.

New Amiibo that unlocks patent leather boots in Breath of the Wild!

That's precisely how nVidia's current external gpu offering (Razer Core) works though : via USB-C/Thunderbolt

And since it's only an extra Tegra X1 rather than a full GPU it's already a lot leaner of a setup than working with a GTX1080 in external form.

So it'll work fine - it's a solution nVidia has worked on for a long time already.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

No, that's NOT how nVidia's current external gpu offering (Razer Core) works!

It doesn't combine the internal and external GPU. It is switching the internal GPU off in favor of the external and they don't have to sync.

The Razer Core also uses the Thunderbolt 3 double port protocol: http://www.trustedreviews.com/reviews/razer-core

The Switch uses USB 3.0, which is a completely different league: https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nintendo+Switch+Teardown/78263#s156423

The Drive PX 2 which connects two Tegras on one board has a bandwith of over 50 GB/s (400 Gbps)... that is also "a bit" faster than the 0.625 GB/s (5 Gbps) the Switch can (theoretically) reach:

SMD64 had one legit software leak.

I don't trust his hardware speculations at all. They've all been wrong.
He's gone as far as trying to discredit people like LKD who did have legit info, bcause he has this nintendo console power fantasy that never materialized, so the ultra powerful dock would be his last resort.
