Ehh, it's actually quite a bit below what I expected from Splatoon after its COMG performance and the general hype level I thought it had in Japan. Oh well, legs are gonna be great anyway. The same for Switch hardware as well. With Nintendo saving Switch stock for Splatoon launch week, and with the Switch's overall super strong performance in Japan so far, I was expecting more Switches to be available.

Remember digital sales arn't counted and splatoon is the type of game you ALWAYS want on the system.

Also ps3 and wii U selling double that of the xbone lol.

I know, I've been following Japanese game sales for nearly three years now, but it doesn't really change what I said. Splatoon didn't quite meet my expectations for FW sales.

It shipped 200k at launch on the ps4/vita. Pretty huge drop to 10k. I dunno, I just expected more because I wanted more 3rd parties to jump onto switch as soon as possible. But as usual, japanese developers are pretty slow to react.

According to VGC the game has sold 300k units + digital across two platforms and an installbase of 75-80 million systems in 7-8 months

Switchversion has sold 10k +  digital units on an install base of 1 millionish (japan) in 3 days. What to expect from the other regions I have no idea...

What were you expecting/hoping for?

I can't believe people are bothering to defend the horific sales of Fate/Extella when Splatoon 2 has done so well (while we have some people who may have inflated expectations with their hype, it's still done well). Userbase size doesn't matter for niche games. It seems while the niche games are doing well on Switch in the West, the JP base isn't buying them.

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Check out MyAnimeList and my Game Collection. Owner of the 5 millionth post.

DQ next week may potentially bump Zelda, actually. It'll be interesting to see how that does.

I expected a bit more for Splatoon 2 from the YSO prediction, but good sales nontheless.

And almost 100k Switch, just missed that bar.

Pleasantly surprised by the sales of Layton and Fate/Extella, I feared the latter would bomb in Japan on the Switch

You expected a bit more. Splatoon 2 first week is better than lifetime sales of Zelda BOTW on Switch, MARIO Kart 8 deluxe, and ARMS in Japan. It’s the best selling Switch game in Japan. What were you expecting?

With a hard copy attach rate of 60% on a game where it makes sense to buy digitally?

If you had been following COMG, you would know what I'm talking about, if you don't then you won't understand. But yes, even then. Besides, the physical attach rate is 53%, not 60%.

Was it cheaper digitally? Were there any other advantages to buying digitally versus other games?

How would it bump Zelda?

Single player RPG-like game. Not sure why this is even a question, as it's certainly possible.

It's a question because A. it's not even on the same platform, and B. why would people buy two really long games in the same week knowing it's going to take them a long time to finish one and move on to the other?

What market data exists that tells you people won't buy two longish games? Especially given that zelda can be beaten in under 40 minutes if one wants.

I believe a lot of people with switches also own another platform.

Small size and the fact that its a multiplsyer game. You want it on the console at all times for a quick match here and there.
