Not to mention that these are only Japan numbers.

"software lower than we thought"

What?

Maybe I'm just dumb and should follower Japan closer but 671k in one country not including eshop sales(just cards) is an insane amount, especially for one country like Japan.

This is such good news!

That's what I was thinking. >600k in Japan is phenomenal. Splatoon 2 could well be over 1.5M WW already. Big win for Nintendo.

Switch numbers should have been higher. They basically just transitioned ~15k of the 40k they were shipping before MK8D from the late June/early July period to artificially boost numbers this week. Nintendo could have just shipped 40k per week to Japan and forgone the charade that they actually "bumped up" supply for the month.

Get ready for a drought next week, followed by 25k until Monster Hunter XX, and then a "surprise" 75k for that launch.

120 or 102K?

EDIT: I honestly feel like some people overestimated Splatoon 2's sales potential. How many games in Japan have sold 500K+ copies in opening week in the last few years, anyway? Lots of Pokémon, MH and Yokai Watch games, sure, but not many things beyond those. 670K seem pretty solid to me, especially considering that Switch has sold just above 1.2 million units.

While splatoon 2 software is lower than most thought if hardware wasn't supply constrained it would probably have sold over 1m first week.  So yeah people over estimated it's sales but that comes with an * which I outlined above.

Not really surprising since it is the reading of スプラトゥーン2 :P

Still pitiful from google to know to suppress the u's and make oo out of u-- but not use L instead of R.

Maybe it's because the former two are much mre hard rules, while the r/l thing depends on a case by case basis, especially with romanizations. 'Spratoon' needs to be Splatoon but 'Maria' (in most cases) needs to be 'Maria'.

Sadly I think you're right....I imagine most of those units were put into Splatoon 2 bundles, but still. They'd have sold through all of ther stock regardless.

If only Google had some kind of search engine to determine which version of the word is more likely.

Just for the record, with eShop sales, Splatoon 2 is probably around 750k in Japan only, so around 750k sold games on instal base of around 1.2m, that basically means that over 60% Switch owners bought game in 1st week, thats insane.

Great start would we esteimate 750K first three day launch with Eshop sales?  Do we have any data on Eshop attach rates in Japan?

Most likely, with eShop sales, Splatoon 2 is probably around 750k after 3 days.

Wow, if the hardware sales were better, Splatoon 2 would have sold a million first week over there. Monster sales. Also, does this mean the game reached the million worldwide already?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Easily. Probably close to 1.5m globally.

If you look at the prediction thread, most people expected it to be around 750k-800k.

Probably over 1.5m and closer to 2m. :)

We will know today or tomorrow.
