Forums - Gaming Discussion - Koei Tecmo: Switch and PS4 revitalized console market

The Xbox One’s sales are slowing down, especially as would be buyers prepare for the Xbox One X’s launch later this year before springing on it, but it looks like the console market is revitalized nonetheless. The credit for that, it seems, goes to Sony’s PS4, which continues its utter domination of the market, and to Nintendo’s Switch, which has been a surprise success beyond all expectation.

Speaking at a financial meeting, Koei Tecmo confirmed that their business is expected to perform strong, thanks to a revitalized console market on the back of the performance of the Nintendo Switch and the PS4. Given the investment the company has made in these two platforms – it has major games lined up for both – it certainly makes sense that their success is bolstering its own business.

Going forward, it will be interesting to see how Tecmo decides to split its support up between PS4 and Switch.

Dynasty warriors 9 Switch in bound? Ninja gaiden 4?

I think the Switch has yet to vitalize anything that's not Nintendo's bottom line. But what does it even mean? Revitalized compared to what? Consoles have been doing completely fine this and last gen.

The switch has spiked sales in Japan. I think that's what they mean. The home region is now healthy to go multiplat between the PS4 -and switch. It will only grow.

Which sales has it spiked in Japan software-wise other than Nintendo's games?

If anything 8th gen is a disaster compared to 7th gen if you include the Wii and Wii U. Besides the PS4 is only on par with the PS3 in Japan. So I gave no clue what thw PS4 revitalises. The Switch will revitalise the Nintendo homeconsole market in Japan since the Wii U did terrible and the handheld market is viable as ever.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

PS4 revitalized nothing, just great marketing and business strategy from Sony, taking full advantage Nintendo's naivety 5 years ago...

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

PS4 yes, Switch not so much......Switch has ultimatley only seen their own fee games succeed......and we have no id3a how its actaully selling because Nintendo cant even make the damn thing. PS4 has brought back the PS2 days worldwide, mear everything is selling great on it

Um, revitalized what part of the market, exactly?
The video game console market, overall, is the same now as it was during the 7th generation.
PS4 is on track to passing the PS3 by a big margin and finishing between the PS1 and PS2. So, I'd say it revitalized Sony's share in the console market, (with an assist from Microsoft for fucking up the Xbox One's reveal and launch.)
The Switch, I wouldn't consider it a dedicated console, or a dedicated handheld, but its own thing entirely. It's merging Nintendo's 2 hardware lines together into 1.
I don't see how that's revitalizing the market.

Try harder.

The theard is about the Japanese CONSOLE MARKET. Not software, not world wide sales... consoles... in Japan. Switch is getting Japan back into the home console market because it allows them to take it on the go as well. That's the entire point of the thread.
