Why  you remove highest selling  japanese franchises ?

Why you don't remove largest western games and companies ?

Why do people compare between just one country and 40 ~ 50 countries ?

Most of sony's exclusives are japanese so I don't know what he's talking about and that's one the main reasons why people buy the brand of console over the others. Typical westerner talking shit about japanese products when he doesn't understand them. Only a handful of games in general sell like cod does, you can't expect every game to pull those kind of numbers but that's not the only way measure a game's impact or it's influence. A lot of games do impact consumers and the market in a variety of ways. Oftentimes, those games help shape the market or it's genre in some way.

Hence the quotation marks. The statement was meant ridicule Pachter.

Bet with PeH:

I win if Arms sells over 700 000 units worldwide by the end of 2017.

Bet with WagnerPaiva:

I win if Emmanuel Macron wins the french presidential election May 7th 2017.

Thanks.

His viewpoint is sadly not that different from the finest triple A publishers like EA and Ubisoft. They think profit doesn't matter if they are not making ALL the profit.

That's why most games are open world this generation and last generation every game wanted to be a military shooter. If they're spending a lot of money on marketing and development to make what they think is the next big hit, it makes sense to base the game on elements that has proven to be successful.

As far as I'm aware. Those "rounding errors" like the Souls series, Nier, Persona and many other inexpensive and successful Japanese games that go after different audiences are the most creative games of the last few years. They certainly made the PS4 more successful and sustainable over the other two.

.- -... -.-. -..

The games are too niche for Pachter to even adequately judge their sales, boo-hoo.

Move along now.

Money, also a lot of more recent immigration, with stronger cultural ties to the continent.

The continent? Which continent? Europe? How are countries like Brazil with their strong ties to Portugal not considered western then? Or Uruguay who are wealther than some of the other countries on that list and also have strong cultural ties with Europe?

But yeah, like VGP said "western" is pretty arbitrary. It's not the only term that sounds geographic in nature, but doesn't properly correspond to a specific geographic region.

"The continent" is (or rather, was) the usual way that colonists spoke of Europe.

Regarding the rest,

"Between 1857 and 1950, 6,611,000 European immigrants arrived in Argentina, making it the country with the second biggest immigration wave in the world"

The government at the time made some very significant efforts to dissociate itself from the rest of South America, and attach itself to Europe. The majority of the Argentinians are descendants of these more recent immigrants (who were incentivised to import their culture and keep ties, not adopt the local culture.) Brazil, on the other hand, has most of its population stemming from older immigration (both european and african slaves) as well as aboriginals.

Well I wouldn't say no one cares, but it is definitly less impactful towards the success of a platform. Look at the Vita and WiiU (Primarily Japanese) vs PS3 and XBO (Primarily Western). Without Major Western support WiiU and Vita could not gain traction. On the other hand PS3 and XBO did quite well even with less than stellar Japanese support.

Outside of Japan, Japanese games are niche for the most part. Western titles whether developed in Canada, The US, or Europe are pretty popular on both sides of the Atlantic, with some even having decent success in Japan.

Why do you compare between just one country and all other countries ?

You think japan is another planet ?

Are we japanese   not human ? Are we aliens?

I wonder how Argentina and Chile made the cut while Mexico did not. I guess the term Western countries is pretty arbitrary anyway.

It is, for example ancient Greece is considered Western, the succecor Byzantium isnt, and now Greece is considered Western again. Its a supremacist term to lock other countries and people out.
