(He forgets that Tomb Raider, Hitman and many games are owned by Square and they are tecnically japanese, even if developed by western stufios)
Kingdom Hearts, Nier, Persona 5, Sega, and many more are franchises and companies that sells millions per game of each of their well stabilished franchises.

He "forgets" ...Or is well aware of that fact, and simply uses common sense metric that non-Japanese developed games don't count as Japanese games just because the IP owner is Japanese (same for all Sony owned Western developed games), and the inverse would be true as well (if Western pub owns IP of game developed by Japanese e.g. MS' Japanese forays still are "Japanese games"). Is Jaguar and Land Rover no longer English car makes because an Indian conglomerate owns the brands? No, that's just corporate financial dealings that doesn't change underlying nature of the product. Same here.

He explicitly deals with the best selling of that group (Persona) and objectively compares it's sales to MEDIOCRE western titles. Not same ballpark. He does also touch on Sonic, although that also doesn't really reach even 5m type sales numbers. And these are the best of the bunch.
Somebody brought up handheld games, and that may be valid if one bothered to back it up with numbers... although note that basically falls under "Nintendo" category exception. And speaking from financial perspective, if those games sell for less (let's say half) they should also count half as much (or whatever). If you are about to retire and depend on getting X% return from investments, how much profits being made actually matters to you. That is the customer for professional business analysts.
IMHO this simply falls under "Pachter stating obvious things" category, which is distinct from his "stating insane things" category.
Again, Japanese games hold value for their fans independent of their lesser sales vs Western games. This doesn't challenge that at all.
