I still wish the industry would cut down on the FPS' so much.

Don't get me wrong, I like Doom, and I like Halo, but most other first person shooters are being bled dry at the moment.

Well, I guess the good news is that there are so many games out there, that we're able to pass on the mediocre ones in favour of the good ones.

For years it was FPS. So much so that other genres were ditched completely to make games more action focused(see Resident Evil/Survival Horror and Final Fantasy/Turn Based Combat). But over the last 5-6 years, it's been the open world/sandbox thanks to Minecraft, GTA and Skyrim. The new victim is linear games, open worlds have made linear a dirty word to say.

Open-world and FPSes among larger companies.

16-bit inspired Metroidvanias and RPGs among indie developers.
