Forums - Gaming Discussion - Most Oversaturated Genre?

What game genre has become the most oversaturated lately?

First person shooter 284 56.02%

Open world 141 27.81%

Simulation (of any kind) 10 1.97%

JRPG 22 4.34%

Third person shooter 12 2.37%

Side-scrolling shooter 4 0.79%

Metroidvania 3 0.59%

Platformer 17 3.35%

Kart racer 2 0.39%

Fighting game 12 2.37%

Total:507

I would say FPS games but for the love of god I love open world games but they take too longer to finish and are piling up.

I feel like people are going to just say a genre they don't like so in order for this to be a real discussion, I'd like to see evidence. Otherwise, we might see people say something like "FPS" while grouping games like CoD with Fallout 4 or something equally inane.

People really don't need to provide evidence for an opinion such as this. You can have a "real" discusssion without citations or proving your opinion.

Simulators. We get lots of sport games every year.

2D platformers. Die already.

As of recently, open world games.

Yup.

Is "bad indies" a genre? That would make for a good runner-up.

FPS followed by indie as a close second.

No, you're wrong.

In 1996. Mascot Platformer.

2017 The FPS. 11 years straight where it's been the most dominate genre. Tho last 2 years it does seem to be slowing down a little. Sure they will still be made and sell well. It just seems the most hyped and talked about games or no longer FPS games aside from Overwatch. Overwatch while I haven't played seems very colorful. The worst offender of the FPS taking over for the last decade is almost all of them were gritty/military.

I'm not the FPS genre biggest fan but I don't hate it either. I like Serious Sam,Turok,Wolfenstien (90s) and I will pick up the new Doom at some point but it's mainly the military FPS that has vastly over saturated console gaming.

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

In the 7th gen it was shooters but I think we have a pretty good mix of genres this gen.
