Forums - Website Topics - I would like community feedback for extended polling for best game ever made. UPDATE.

There is literally no point in even having a poll. Just a topic about what do you think is the best game ever made. No matter what you put on the poll there will always be somethig missing. So just don't do one.

Why not take the top 2 games from each list into the final poll? That doubles the chance that you actually get the best game into the final round.

GTA 5, Super Mario 3, Halo: CE, Witcher 3, Super Metroid, Earthbound, Skyrim, World of Warcraft, Overwatch, Mass Effect 2, Wii Sports, Breath of the Wild, The Last of Us, Mario Kart 8, Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime, A Link to the Past, A Link Between World, The Thousand Year Door.

It may also help to define what you mean by best game ever. There are a lot of ways to look at that.

I'm in favor of more recent games on the polls.

On an age basis, most VGC members are still on their late teens. They would have to go out of their way to play 5th generation games or the like, and even more so to appreciate those games as back when they were new. Those members are much more likely to replay, talk about, and be inspired by newer games.

It's extremely likely a sizeable portion of those who voted on your first poll haven't beaten or even played the games they voted, and instead chose so because that's what repeated endlessly on the internet.

Ocarina of time, metal gear solid, breath of the wild, the last of us, Grand theft auto Vice city, the last of us, Warcraft 2, company of heroes, Perfect dark. To be honest it's really hard to pick the best game ever. For many people that's simply the game they played the most, which doesn't necessarily mean best game ever ie Minecraft or something random like goat simulator

This is an insane way of trying to poll things for the sake of not wanting to put in the effort of doing it right.

Your first thread includes FF7 and OoT which means that FF7 will get less votes than if you put it in thread 4 alongside Bubsy 3d and co.

This would be like having an election where you pick which candidates people are allowed to vote for before hand.... oh..... are you American?

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

I think the main issue is that for a lot of people whatever games put into the polls, what they consider the best game of all time will likely not be in the polls. I'm quite certain that Final Fantasy IX will not make it into them, which means that the game I think is the best of all time won't be eligible at all.

Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda SMB3, SMG and AOE2 are my all time favourites. World of Warcraft was quite the game too.

I agree. There are far too many amazing games, and many people have very strong feelings/attachements to games you might personally not even think of at all when the discussing the "best games of all time." Just for me, on a personal level, I have a very hard time putting an exact top 10 together when I think about what my favorite games of all time in a specific order.

If somebody put my feet to the fire and demanded I name the 5 best games ever made (that I have actually played, and not necessarily my favorites), I'd say it's something like...

1. Witcher 3

2. GTAV

3. Red Dead Redemption

4. World of Warcraft

5. The Last of Us

I wanna note....when I personally think of the best games ever made, very old games are pretty much out of the running as far as I'm concerned. That's not because I don't think very highly of them, or don't respect what many of them did for gaming as a whole, and how they've influenced the industry. Fact is though, technology simply has surpassed many a classic. Just on the immersion factor alone that you can get out of today's machines, when the games look so damn amazing...it's just not something the oldies can compete with. That's not even going into how much mechanics, writing, voice acting, etc, etc have improved for the most part as time passes. Many old games hold a special place in my heart as being some of my favorites ever, and I replay them all the time, but that doesn't objectively put them on par, quality wise, with modern games. I love them because of nostalgia, because they take me back to how I felt playing them as a kid or teenager. I love them because back then everything was fresh, and I hadn't "seeen it all" yet. I love them because they got me into gaming in a broad sense, and into specific genres often. I love them because they inspired trends that have survived to this day. That said, I must repeat again.....they can't compete with their bigger, better, prettier grand children....and in another decade or so, the same will be true for all the games that are currently the best ever made.

Aside form the first post I don't think I have ever seen a post I disagree with more but all the more shows why a Poll is pointless. Why I did a topic on Best ever and fave ever.
