Forums - Microsoft Discussion - If XBX fails, what next?

Well it depends on whether or not they are making money. If the x1x doesn't sell much but they still make profit... Xbox One 2 is going to come out.

Xbox is still a brand with value in North America. The people where I work only talk about "playing Xbox". It's not like it's irredeemable.

When I remarked on my workplace being Xbox-land, my co-worker said, "Playstation is mostly just sports games." I'm not making that up. When I said something about Playstation having a lot of Japanese games, he just looked at me in confusion. He was probably thinking, "how could I play a game in Japanese, you idiot."

Anyway, that aside, Xbox is another gateway to Microsoft's ecosystem and they're not going to drop it anytime soon.

I've also seen several people that I've come in contact with act as though PlayStation is somehow niche, like Xbox completely dominates and who owns such a weird console like the PS4 in 'Merica? Apparently, mostly everyone owns a PS4 and the ones who own an XBO seem to still live like it's 2008.

That said, Microsoft in general and their brands have a grip on pop culture in NA. It would be stupid to completely drop XB here.

They finally buy SEGA and we get Dreamcast 2.

If Atlus goes with that..... ouch... that would be a big blow to Playstation & Nintendo.

Atlus makes alot of great rpgs (for nitnendo handhelds) and pretty decent rpgs for the homeconsoles (like PS4).

Atlus gets sold to EA.

If X1/X1X can maintain 7-8 million units a year, then they should just stay the course.

At some that could achieve the 360 userbase.

VERY unlikely (imo).

Unless the console manage to stay in the market for 9-10 years, i dont think it will touch X360 numbers.

If the X1X under delivers saleswise, it would accelerate the process of a successor.

Without games, the X1S basically already peaked.

Xbox is in serious need of Heavy Hitters.

Software moves Hardware for the masses.

Specs moves Hardware for the hardcore fans.

Again, X1/X1X primarily needs to maintain current sales.

What we know for certain is major 3rd party and 1st party games are coming. So that and the X1X should help stimulate sales.

People keep saying X1X is a niche product, but I see it as the X1S replacement after a few price cuts.

Xbox X one XX of course.

But really they'd be kind of screwed. Switch Proved there's room for more than one console to be very successfull worldwide and if the Xbox One X can't make it outside of the US they're toast.

Its a well know name, its profitable and has many fans.
Xbox one X cannot "fail" but they can and will continue to walk in the shadows of Sony and soon Nintendo but thats not a terrible thing.

They will see how sales go and what their fans want if they want to continue the route of pc/console merging they will do this (best for everyone to be honest its very pro consumer)

If there is an indication they need to switch strategy they will proberbly replace Phil and his vision and put someone in charge that goes a more "PS" style route and they will make a different console to counter the PS5

Either way Xbox will be around for a long time and eventually everything will proberbly be streamed anyway and when that time comes I am sure they will keep the Xbox name

no more XB and MS games will become 3rd-party

software sales profits is more important afterall

This won't happen.

Consoles are no longer sold at a significant loss. Xbox generates money from 1st and 3rd party software sales. Furthermore, it pushes services like XBL Gold, music streaming, movies, etc.

Hence, Xbox doesn't just make money from gaming software sales.

That would... suck but probably be better than MS takeing it and makeing games exclusive to their platform.

Thats dangerous, before the tech to make it smart to do so, are avalible.

You want MS to do a 1,000$ console?

You need to wait for 7nm to be ready for chips, and for amd to have its new cpu&gpu ready.

Otherwise you risk your competitor launching a year later, but much cheaper, same or more power in system.

If MS do a PS3 and launch a 600$ system, and then Playstation 5, comes out a year lateron for 400$ and more powerfull... things will go bad.
