Forums - Sales Discussion - June 2017 NPD Thread! PS4 #1 (Leaks are in!)

That's some savage growth for the PS4 yoy! Never expected that! This is highly unusual, especially in the summer and with fairly small game releases, Crash is a remake collection of older games and Tekken 7 had a paltry first week globally.

Wipeout, Tekken, Crash, Arizona Sunshine, a Gold PS4, and a $249.99 entry price sure helped the PS4 out in June. Sony has some great momentum right now. They have reached the point where a decent caliber title is coming out on the platform every couple of weeks, and there is just no stopping in sight.

Between the games, new services like PS Vue & PS Now, and new gaming tech with PSVR & the Aim controller, Sony has created some massive seperation between themselves and the other console manufactures. With every new Firmware Update PS4 inches closer and closer to being an all in one PC/Console/Media Box, and I think consumers are catching on.

Sony is in a very strong position right now, and well on the path to expanding the their console business once again. I still think 200 million PS4s is very possible, and it's life will be much longer than many are expecting. Sales are continuing to grow year over year, and we are just hitting the stride of true next gen titles, and full support from Sony World Wide Studios. God of War, The Last of Us Part II, Gran Turismo Sport, Red Dead Redemption 2, Grand Theft Auto 6, PSVR, PS Vue, Price drops, new models, new form factors, PS4 has massive potential to continue to sell at even higher rates for a few years to come.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Wow PS4 is on fire. Hard to believe it has this much punch still so late in the gen. Seems as if it really has taken on the PS2's legacy. Poor Xbox is basically dead in the water at this point with no gears or Halo title this Christmas to fend off Sony and all their big third party marketing and bundles. God is almost doesn't seem fair lol

Scor..........

sorry, I meant XB1X.

Cause apparently even after seeing how sales of the PS4pro were some people seem to be thinking that sales of the xb1 are bad now cause everyone is holding out for the X..... a console that will be at least exactly twice as expensive as the base XB1 and PS4.

If ppl think the X is gonna do anything substantial, they're nuts lol. Why spend $500 on a console that plays the same games as the S model or PS4 slim? I'm sure it'll do nice numbers for the hardcore but that's it. PS4 had a firm grasp on the gen now and with Switch, I don't see too many more npd victories for team Xbox I'm afraid. At least until next gen.

We know the PS4 Pro accounted for roughly 20% of sales, and with the price difference for the X being larger you'd think it might be an even lower proportion. The X isn't going to be a deciding factor when it comes to overall sales.

I think Sony are trying to sell 20 million+ this year, so expect a lot of price drops mid year and during the holidays.

I'm thinking a temp price cut around the holidays, and then a permanent price drop around March 2018 for God of War launch.

and some said last year was the PS4s peak year......

I think 2018 will be peak year... First full year of new price points, new Pro colors and bundles, God of War, Spiderman, KH3, RDR2...

Sony is expecting to ship 18million PS4s in the FY2017 period (between April 1st 2017 and March 31st 2018F, lower than FY2016's 20million but higher than FY2014's 14.8million and FY2015's 17.7million). They might however change that in about a week and a half when we get Sony's FY2017 Q1 Earnings announcement.

If PS4 sells 20 million in 2017 that will put them at 73.4 million at the beginning of 2018. They are expecting 78 million shipped by March 31st 2018 so I imagine that will still be enough for PS4's sales from January to April 2018. Unless the PS4 beasts in the beginning of the year again, and it just might with God Of War, Red Dead 2, Ni No Kuni II, Yakuza 6, Days Gone.. Jesus. They're probably going to slay next year too.
