Pretty much the only thing the ps4 pro and xbox 1 x exist to do seems to be put more pixels on screen...  I'm okay with the switch using the power for pixels when you conside that as a handheld it's normally running in 720p exactly the res of the handhelds screen, and the majority of tvs today are 1080p I like that power use tbh.

Well, that's why PS4 Pro and Xbox One X are pointless in my opinion. A resolution bump isn't necessarily a bad way to use the extra power, but only ever using it for that alone and nothing else seems a missed opportunity in my opinion. There are other aspects of graphics besides just pixel count. If I had to pick between 1080p with worse draw distance, shadows and texture filtering or 900p with better draw distance, shadows and texture filtering, I'd take the latter.

It really does depend on the upscaling used in either the console or the TV though, but sometimes upscaling artifacts can muddy up an image on a screen which isn't the native resolution of the picture which like I said is why the 720/1080 stuff is cool... that said... Zelda is 900p I think on the big screen and dear lord that game is beautiful, wouldn't have it 1080p at the cost of any of the games looks. So I agree with you, just having resolution as your go to place to piss your power on isn't always the best idea.

Far more so in other areas.... see that Crash trilogy is running at 30fps even on the ps4 pro? I mean... surely 1080/60 would have been a better call there?
