Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo is going to make a fortune through accessories alone.

So, today I've finally managed to buy a Switch. After trying it for a little bit, I've started to make a list of accessories I need and might need for the console. The protecction plastic for the screen, a case for travels, an SD card for digital purchase, a battery charger and adapter for travels (the one included in the box is too big), a Pro controller to allow confortable multiplayer without using each of the joycons, the dumb device for the voice chat...

Holy shit, is it just me, or does the Switch needs an abnormal amount of accessories? I didn't need that many for my 3DS or my Wii. Do you think the console needs that many things, or is it just me? Does this happen to you as well? How did you solve it?

Glass Screen protector ~6$

Travel case ~13 to 19$

200 GB SDcard ~64$

Power bank ~30 to 50$

Switch Pro controller 69$

Hori nintendo switch chat headset ~30$

You can easily spend a additional +200$ before your Switch, is the way you want it to be, to do what its ment to.

Well, for me it is sort of adding the accessory costs of home and handheld consoles toghether.

Glass screen protector, travel case and SD card (albeit smaller) are all things I bought for my 3DS.

I definitevely bought additional wii motes for my Wii and a pro controller for my WiiU, plus an external harddrive for the latter (wich definitively offsets the smaller SD card in my till).

Now, I'd argue that you don't really need the headset, voice chat works without one if your phones speaker is loud enough and is more of 'nice-to-have'.

The powerbank is more expensive, but I did buy battery packs and a wii mote charger back in the day because I got annoyed with the constant battery changing.

I'd only consider a second 'travel dock' if it was 25$ or less seeing that you still have to buy the 30$ powersupply from ninty.

Overall the price is probably similar to homeconsole+handheld accessories.

I havent bought any of that yet, save for the glass screen protector. I've got the splatoon pro controller pre-ordered though and I plan on a second set of Joy-Con eventually. I'd like to get a powerbank and I'll cross the sd-card bridge when I get to it, hopefully prices will have come down a little by then.

I'd probably just go with the screen protector and a cheaper SD card since data wise, you're not gonna see 20-40 GB games since most Nintendo games are compressed relatively well and most third parties won't have to utilize that much space anyway. Plus physical games are a thing as well. As for a pro controller, it's an option you can get if you really don't care for the joy cons being used separately. The power bank? I don't have much experience with them but it depends on how much you'll play undocked. As for the headset, again, it's up to you. Personally I don't care since I don't have many friends with a Switch to play online with and I've not been too fond of online chat (although that one time online experience with a friend on NBA 2K on the 360 was pretty good).

You don't need a protective case or a carrying case. I've never had one on any Nintendo handheld and never had an issue. Nintendo doesn't make easily breakable/scratchable products.

Other than that, yup.

I was there when my coworker bought his Switch and a regular copy of Breath of the Wild with it. So that's one console and one game totaling $360. He then spent more than that in a case, a screen protector, controllers, docks, amiibos, memory cards, network adaptors, etc.

I know he went all out, but it was pretty eye opening. People are spending a lot of money to use the Switch the way they want to.

Adding a pro controller and power bank? Really?

How about we add a couch and tv to the cost of a ps4/xb1?

You could start by adding Pro Controller and PSVR before including the couch.

I think that's what's interesting about the Switch. You can utilize it as a home console, a handheld, or both. Thus this gives you different options to pursue to get the best out of your experience. You can choose to spend more or spend less. Plus it's a long term investment for 5 or so years. Plus it depends on the game that comes up. Some might really just want to play Mario Odyssey on the TV while others might want to play Pokémon on handheld.

Good one xD

Yeah, it can be expensive depending on what you want. Really, I just bought the Switch, Zelda, and an adapter. I got the Zelda LE, so that came with a case. It can be expensive with accessories, but this isn't really anything new. This has happened in the past, with other devices like portables.

I bought my 3DS used, and the touchscreen looked like someone had slashed it with a fork or something, the previous owner must have been a kid. Just in case, I like to have the plastic protection just in case, even if I take good care of my hardware.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

You definitely don't NEED all those things. This feels like the thing people would say when the Wii came out about having to spend hundreds buying all the controllers and accessories when in reality a wiimote+nunchuck cost $10 more than a standard controller, so it was a grand total of $30 extra in controllers for a cheaper console whose games were also $10 less than the other systems.

The only thing you could maybe say you need is the SD card, the rest of just your own choices to buy extra stuff. Which is fine, but the Switch in no way requires you to buy them to get the full experience.

For my part, I plan on buying probably a 200gb sd card so I can download most of the games I get and I'll be set. Probably won't ever even need to get another set of joycons, but that's cuz i have no friends...womp womp
