From Nintendo Life:

Nintendo has recently filed a trademark application for the Nintendo 64 controller in Europe, which given the timing might well indicate that a Nintendo 64 Classic Mini could be in the works for next year. 

Such trademark applications have also been filed for the NES controller and the SNES controller, so this logic does seem sound given that we now have a NES Classic Mini and a Super NES Classic Edition is on the way later this year. The 'goods and services' part of the application references physical goods, too, which has boosted hopes further.

What games would you like to see on a Nintendo 64 Classic Mini if this was to come to pass? Let your imagination run wild with a comment below.

So, they trademarked the controller, as in the picture? They can't trademark the actual controller itself, as that'd be a patent, right?

I can see it eventually happening, and Nintendo surelly is already researching and developing it, but I have a gut feeling it will only come in 2019.

I personally think that next year will be a rerun of Super Nintendo and NES classic editions

To me, this looks like an icon that would appear in the Switch eShop. Like,

This game is playable with:

(joycon icon)
(handheld mode icon)
(pro controller icon)
(64 controller icon)

So virtual console maybe?

Too soon. It could come late 2019 at best, but Nintendo is making too many miniconsoles and too little of each of them. They have to focus on the Switch.

For f**k sake they have nothing to do with each other.

 

They have problem getting the parts for the switch beacuse they have to fight Apple for it and thats not easy.

3DS has so many more rpgs.

Basically on the Switch its "I am Setsuna" + "Disgaea 5" and if your not set on those, your kinda outta luck.
