Forums - Gaming Discussion - Question for PS and Xbox Fans about NS Online App

How would you feel?

Improvement on current built in chat 8 6.06%

Worse and annoying 96 72.73%

No opinion 10 7.58%

Non PS/XB fan wanting to see result 18 13.64%

Total:132

I don't think ms would do it because of their shooters and online games. Sony wouldn't do it because of 3rd party online games, mmos and online games in general. Besides both charge for their online and they would get a lot of backlash if they tried it. Switch by now should have that feature included.

Nintendo used to be my backup console next to an Xbox of sort as my main. The Switch is an extremely unattractive console this go around and I doubt I'll own one anytime soon. This chat 'ap' isn't helping matters either.

I love cables! If only Switch needed more of them, it could look like my PC!!!

The NES came out in 1985. Nintendo has been "at this" longer. They have gifted, skilled and capable engineers. They have implemented voice chat into previoius games, which is arguably a more difficult solution than incorporating it into the OS itself. But even if they didn't have the capabilities and knowledge they have outsourced the development of other projects in the past. There is no excuse for this.

Came out earlier than that IIRC, but it's release date is irrelevant. I was clearly talking about a gaming network. Nintendo is newer than that than MicroSony, fact. I'd take issue with the apparent reality that the app has issues, not with the service requiring an app and cell phone.

Another key difference is price. It's pretty hypocritical when all last gen the excuse for PSN vs XBL was PSN was free and XBL was $60. Yet now apparently Nintendo is supposed to match the others in features at 1/3 the price.

If they sort out the issues with the app then I really don't care about needing a phone an app. I already use the apps for PSN/XBL for sending messages and viewing community stuff. So the headphone jack goes into the phones aux port instead of the controllers. The horror!

This is Nintendo's 3rd try at a gaming network. This gen is Sony's second try.

Also PSN was free on PS3 and voice chat in games was enabled. And on PS4 party chat is a free feature so you can't use the price argument.

Nintendo has skilled engineers and designers and programmers, there's no reason why they couldn't do built in party chat.

Sony or Microsoft couldn't even afford a mistake like this

Nintendo is newer to this, I am willing to cut them some slack.

Microsoft was "new" to it with the original Xbox. They set the standard and got it right the first time.
Nintendo has decades more console-making experience than Microsoft, so there is no excuse.

Also I highly doubt most gamers in Switch care about voice chat and those that do are more hardcore and likely to own phones and party up, assuming you can party up.

Untill we have some actual statistics, this is just opinion. We don't know how many care/don't care about voice chat.

But one thing is for sure, many do actually use it across Steam, Xbox Live and the Playstation Network.

The other thing about Switch is that it is a Wifi device, not an LTE device, so what happens if you don't have a phone? What if it is a kid just tapping into the homes wifi? They don't get voice chat.

And let's be honest... Adding a Microphone would have only cost Nintendo cents. They are being tight asses and it's not acceptable.
Not to mention they will be charging for online soon as well.

Sony/MS can copied anything they want from Nintendo but pls don't copy this stupid app.

Microsoft was first to the whole "App that ties into the console" thing with Smartglass. But it wasn't a forced requirement, it didn't replace anything. And that is the right way to go about it.

The mass of cables destroys portability.

Nintendo has been at this for like, 5 years now. Counting the DS/Wii WiFi Service, whatever it was called, would be like including whatever Sony had going for PS2.

I don't care about party chat in PS4 being free, it's irrelevant to anything I said. I'm talking overall price and the expectations that come with that price. I don't expect Nintendo to have as robust or quality a network as MicroSony when their service costs $20 for an entire year. Again, it's the same logic we saw on this board last gen when PSN lacked many features and qualities Live had. "well it's free".

Lastly the app and services aren't even finished yet, it's not launching as a complete service until next year. This will be my last post here, no point bickering about what is basically a beta LOL.

Nintendo should of had a decent voice chat for the wii and onward.  No excuses. Online games were becoming very popular and a blind man could see that trend. Voice chat makes it alot easier to communicate in those games and most people who play those games want voice chat. That's a fact.

Do you really think the PS2 online was like the Wii online? Is that your honest opinion?

Wii U online was pretty robust, to say you wouldn't expect an improvement is kinda silly.
You know this discussion is literally just about party chat? We're not talking about the service as a whole, Party chat is a free service outside of the subscription. You could say Nintendo didn't care and didn't want to implement it but they're going through the trouble of this app because reasons.

No one is arguing about it's current state here, that's for a different thread. It's the REASON why it exists is what we're discussing, you know that but you choose to make irrelevant statements. But you're free to leave the thread now that your arguments have fallen flat :)

It's an idiotic idea but since I never use voice chat, I would forget about it after a while.
