Out of curiosity due to this Nintendo Switch Online App that I had no idea was a thing until today when it launched. 

How would we (Including myself in this) feel if Sony and Microsoft were to go down this route for their next console iteration. Ie. No built in voice chat, and to voice chat you have to use an app on your smartphone assuming you have one?

I used voice chat maybe 3 or 4 times. But I'd still be pissed off. It's a standard. Every electronic device now can do it. It's a joke the the switch doesn't have it built in

I don't think it's as big a deal on a Nintendo platform as it would be on the other two. Nintendo is newer to this, I am willing to cut them some slack. Also I highly doubt most gamers in Switch care about voice chat and those that do are more hardcore and likely to own phones and party up, assuming you can party up.

How is having to use a cellphone and random gadgets an improvement over what we have now?

Why would a company that has been doing voice chat suddenly resort to something poor setup require a cellphone and any number of odd gadgets?

The idea is that if someone believes it's an improvement they can coment on the thread as to why.

I use the PlayStation and Xbox apps all the time. They serve their purpose but I don't think they're ideal for matchmaking, etc. I think it would be okay as an option since my LG Tone Platinum headset is light years better than the headsets that came packed with my consoles but you can't beat that "all in one" convenience the PS4/Xbox offer.
