Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 Update 5.0 - BETA tester Sign Up. Something Big Incoming???

According to Gematsu, Sony is asking for volunteers to beta test the PS4 system update 5.0.  Does this mean something big is coming?  See sign up links below:

Also According to Gematsu:

"You can sign up anytime between today and the start of the beta in early August (in Japan, registration ends on July 27). Users must be of 18 years or older. In Japan, users must also be a PlayStation Plus or PlayStation Now subscriber."

So what do you think?

I'm pretty happy with the layout and features as they are. It would be nice on the pro if we 1080p users could choose a 4k output that would automatically downsample, though.

Not a chance in hell it happens, bit I would also like to have PS1 classics on the PS4, if only so I can continue my streak of playing Symphony of the Night on as many systems as possible.

US signup appears to require PS Now as well. Considering a PS Now app auto-downloaded a few days ago (and promptly deleted, LOL), I'm guessing 5.0 will have something to do with it.

Will it make it slower?

I hope they make media apps faster to access again - the current system is slow and shit

media apps stop taking forever and on Pro that it stop stucking while on PS Store, when loading video of the game or when processing a purchase sometimes it will freeze for several minutes. Also there are some black screen sometimes.
On usage I would like that games that doesn't come with formal PS4Pro patches get some sort of auto improvements as X1X is said to do.

If they can't change IDs because their database doesn't allow it they can do this: let us transfer all our trophies and game libraries to a new PSN ID.

You mean...like Boost Mode.

Seriously, people should know until now to take everything MS promises with a grain of salt.

I've said this since years...they should offer people who still own original PS1/2/3 games and are subscribed to PS Plus those games on PS Now for free. Would be a nice move to counter missing backwards compatibility. Not saying they really need it but it would be a customer friendly move for sure.

I'm not expecting anything big. I will always pray for backwards compatibility because whether Sony wants it or not, it will eventually have to come. That being said not expecting anything major.
