So, just putting some probes out, but is anyone here interested in 8k, or are people satisfied / overwhelmed by 4k.

I am not just talking about gaming, I am sure that the PC scene will be there pretty soon.
But for media consumption / creation, productivity, photography, bragging rights and future proofness.

Does anyone here already have a 4k panel, and if so what have been your impressions on the increased pixel count.

As for me, I love it.
I will be getting an 8k display as I am able to get a good quality, 8k HDR OLED monitor for ~$1000.
I have enjoyed my 4k monitor for over two years (perhaps even three) now, but I wish I had spent more money, and got a higher quality panel.
That is something I won't repeat again.

UI scaling is pretty bad, Steam on Linux does not scale to 4k, and I have to sit real close to read text, and there are more examples I could bring up (but cannot be bothered to confirm to see if that is still the case).

Playing games in 4k is pretty incredible, not perfect but if you are used to 720p, 900p or 1080p, you will surly will notice the clarity (unless you are blind).

Don't bother with Youtube's 4k video, that sucks.
Digital Foundry's videos are pretty good though, when they aren't doing console stuff.

720p/1080p, with no real desire to upgrade. The difference is definitely obvious, but if games still had PS2-era graphics, I would still play them, so...yeah.

The madness about resolution needs to stop.

Deminishing returns (visually) and the insane amounts of Power needed to drive it, along with how much extra work it is (if your doing textures worthy of it).

When does it end?
Next two gens will/should both be 4k.

8k on consoles is waaaaaaaaay off.

Im at 1080p still... and when I decide to upg to 4k, i ll be sticking with that for sometime too.

is there really a need to upgrade from 4k? which is really crisp and clear. i think resources would be much better off put into other things than 8k.

I hope not (wastefull to try to go above currently, for a console imo).

Next gen it ll be 4k, and the one after that too.

Whos to say what happends 15+ years from now, maybe by then we re all sitting with 8k displays.

But right now? no, 4k is more than enough.

Most people are fine with 1080p still.

Just a reminder, this is in the PC discussion thread, and not restricted to games.

Still at 1080p. Heck, my laptop even still using 768p screen.

I don't see any reason to upgrade from 1080p unless you're going to stand really close to the screen.

A handheld gamer only (for now).

I bet you 1080p wins the poll. Hell I don't even know what resolution my monitor is. Perhaps I need to upgrade in a year or two.

I'm currently using a 1080p TV and a monitor with the same resolution, and unless things change a lot, my next TV will be FullHD again and I will only upgrade my monitor to 1440p.

It's not only because of games and the necessary power to run them at 4K, it's the fact that there's very little content (movies, TV shows) in 4K, so there's no real need to get there yet. And 8K... well, I think it will need a very long time to take off.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

720p/1080p for me.
