ever since Moffat took over the show it has been going downhill. there have just been so many stupid moments since Season 5. first he decided that the TARDIS noise should be a cause of the Doctor leaving the breaks on. then we got fat rainbow Daleks which even Moffat agrees was a mistake. then all of the 10th Doctor's adventures were canonically wiped from history after the TARDIS blew up for no goddamn reason. we got the completely unnecessary romantic subplot with River. we got John Hurt, who although was a good character was a complete waste of a regeneration. the battle for Trenzalore which made no damn sense since he was supposed to die but hen Moffat decided not to (why do it in the first place then). the Master is now a crazy lady. the sonic screwdriver turned into sonic sunglasses for an entire season. and then finally we got Season 10's awful 3-parter about aliens who want to rule the world and simulate the entire world just to rule the world because of absolutely no reason at all.

but he couldnt just let things go that easily. he had to take one last stab at the fanbase, where even after 3 years of people telling him NOT to make the Doctor a woman, various actors turning the role down because they feel the Doctor shouldnt be a woman, and people working on the show having doubts about the doctor being a woman... Moffat made the Doctor a woman....

i fear it may be too late to save this show

It seems like 3 series + the christmas specials has been the usual amount for each of the past few doctors with David Tennant, Matt Smith, and now Peter Capaldi all having at least 3 series before passing the role to someone else. So I wonder if it will just be the same expected amount for her before she passes on the role as well.

I haven't seen any of Series 10 yet but i'll get around to it eventually since I know it just ended not too long ago.

I'm sure we'll see the angry insecure males out of the closet, up in arms over this. Look, if you ain't gonna fuck'em, why does it matter?

So the only meaningful quality of gender to a character is whether or not you can fuck them?

For the record, I think there's about a 90% chance I'll have a huge crush on this upcoming doctor. I tend to fall for Scifi women.

Lorewise there wasn't anything preventing this from happening. The reason it didn't happen in the 60s or 70s or 80s is rather obvious. The Doctor regenerating always brings about a change in the personality of the doctor, a change in gender is rather minor compared to that. But people will complain. Of course. And they are allowed to, even if I don't see a problem with it.

It's much more important wether the writing is actually good. New Doctor Who has been a bit of a roller coaster in terms of writing quality.

I feel like the lore sometimes contradicts itself. Aren't regenerations supposed to be completely random? The 9th doctor even says before he regenerates that they never know what they're gonna end up with. But then there are also scenes such as where Peter Capaldi remembers his face from a previous episode with the 10th doctor and remembers why he "chose it", which would imply that they do have at least some sort of control over who they become?

So while it has always been said that the doctor can regenerate into anything it makes me wonder if they're going to try to give a reason for it that made him become a female this time where as he didn't during all his other regenerations or just go with "well we always said the doctor could become anything" that has been said and shown in the show before like with that one episode from series 9 where that one guy regenerated and come back as a woman.

I think the latter would be better since it doesn't need its own explanation, people who have been watching the show would already know that it was always possible. It doesn't need to be made a big deal that the doctor is all of a sudden a woman now since it has been said in the show that it's possible, just like it wasn't made a big deal that the master became a woman and was Missy, it was just the master being back which was the big surprise.

The limits of a Timelord were rewritten long ago, if the Master can return as Missy then the is no limit stopping the Doctor doing the same. This probably means the next companion is likely to be male.

I'm not against it. It's been coming for a while now. Anyone getting upset with the regenerating alien time traveler changing appearance from a man to a woman needs to get their head out of their butts.

That said, I think Capaldi has been brilliant and I'd love to see him take hold of the role for a lot longer. Shame he followed the 3 season cycle.

it's funny that men criticisng anything involving women is insecurity, but women say, calling anyone who didn't like last year's Ghostbusters movie sexist and misogynist, isn't

Even the random elements have been removed slightly, the 12th Doctor actually chose his form which is why he looks exactly like a character from the previous season.
