There's alot of series that are better than those.  Rick & Morty isn't anime. It's american slopslod cartoon.

In no particular order....

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Terra Formars, One Piece, Darker Than Black, Parasyte the Maxim, Attack on Titan, Naruto shippuden, Mobile Suit Gundam Iron-blooded Orphans, sword Art Online, Tokyo Ghoul, Hunter x Hunter, Soul Eater, Blue Exorcist, Akama Ga Kill, The Seven Deadly Sins, Elfen Lied, Kill La Kill, Food Wars Shokugeki No Soma, Rosario + Vampire, The Irregular At Magic High School, Spice and Wolf, Bacanno! and High School of The Dead.

There's plenty of others

I don't think Rick and Morty can be topped but perhaps...perhaps, Stiens Gate or Dragonball has a rival? Something than binds seriousness with whimsical and witty sub plots and a texture so pure you can almost feel it caress you. Suggestions and I'll put the top ones in a poll later.

Dora the Explorer, Family Guy and the Jetsons are my favorite anime, they are whimsical and have witty sub plots and a texture so pure you can almost feel it caress you.

Re:Zero !!! It's actually all 3 in one.

I'm disappointed in how few people mentioned Avatar.

Rick and Morty is an objectively well-made show, by the way. I'd also draw people's attention to a little bit of Canadian animation with the likes of ReBoot, Beast Wars, and Shadow Raiders by Mainframe Entertainment.

Also: Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law

Pure anime, I'd agree with Death Note and One Piece. But there's a soft spot in my heart for Gundam Wing. It's not particularly good, but I love it.

Well, these three are very, very different. You put wittiness as combining feature? Well, I don't really see it, as still even the wittiness is very different in the three.

Nevertheless: Futurama, Yona of the Dawn, Mushi-shi, South Park are very good animated series.

I'd agree with avatar. Probably the best western cartoon/anime out there.

As far as animated shows go, the first 5-7 seasons of the Simpsons will never be challenged for writing quality, social impact and sheer brilliance. Those of you who are too young, you have no idea.

You want a good one, Code Gease S1 and S2, S3 is now in the making

You'll notice how bad S2 is when you realize the executive meddling.
