OK, I am seeing a lot of very optimistic predictions. The people predicting 5 million or more are saying that Splatoon 2 will sell more than any eighth generation game. The people predicting 6 million or more are saying that the Splatoon franchise will be more popular than Pokémon and Animal Crossing. Those expectations seem unrealistically high to me.

We will see. Splatoon was a runaway hit and became the bestselling Wii U Title with an 40% attach rate. Moreover, it kept selling, not dropping out of the Amazon top 20 for over a year. Splatoon 2 will, just like it's predecessor, get free updates for over a year, meaning it's sales will be much less frontloaded than other games, even moreso with the Switch's supply constrains.

6.3 is a high bar, but one thing I learned from the first game is to not underestimate Splatoon, especially in Japan

Actually in Japan Splatoon had around 50% attach rate, around 1.7m copies of Splatoon on around 3.3m sold Wii U consoles.
