This is the problem with MS, they do things no one asked for, hence they usually fail to capture a huge majority of the market. It seems they have not learned.
I see no reason to dish out $400 every 3 years for a better CPU, no way in hell i get behind that unless there is a very friendly trade in program built in.
Sony said it best a few years ago "we believe in the current model that gamers have loved and embraced", 4 months after saying that they launched PS4 and the rest is history.
If people don't see by now that MS is moving away from the consoles they are in for a rude awaking.
MS is going to have console gamers spend $1000 over 5 years on hardware upgrades for their "generationless" model, that's about what a person spends on PC upgrades in the same amount of time.

No one is putting a gun to anyone's head saying they have to buy a new system every 3 years. It's a choice, just like you don't have to buy every new iPad model or every new smartphone model.

And Sony started this model with the PS4 Pro.

Not if they don't keep doing it. I'm sure they've said that this won't become a thing with them.

Microsoft has not had one successful major new IP that adds to the roster all gen. There should not be any news of a new console right now. Xbox One X drops and they should be hard at work on a new IP.....otherwise shut up. Worthless news. Hardware alone is an not a proper proposition for buying new hardware, but rather the expectation of a quality library incoming.

PS Pro is officially a mid-gen upgrade. Whereas from what we're gathering so far, Microsoft seems to be ditching the concept of generation which defines consoles. Xbox will change into a closed PC. PS-Pro is not a closed PC.

Let's not kid ourselves. They are all technically "PC's".

The person tweeting sounds like an idiot.

very old news from the 90s

X1X2 will be utterly crushed by PS5 coz it will be percieved as a poor man's PC. PS5 will exist and retain the typical advantages of a traditional console. The "X" model serves as an entire new direction for MS on gaming. This is not what Sony intends to do with "Pro" because they apparently still believe in generations and there will be a PS5.

But.. if X1X sales don't meet MS' expectations, then it's possible they revert back to making normal consoles, or just exit and forget about gaming hardware altogether. It's not like we have any confirmation on whether MS truly doesn't believe in generations anymore.

You don't know if the Xbox One X version 2 will be crushed by the Playstation 5. We have zero idea what the hardware is. What the software is. What the price is. Nothing.

Xbox One X is not going to be a sales monster, no one actually expects it to be. Playstation 4 Pro set the precedent that iterative mid-generation consoles are not massive sellers.

Something tells me they will change their tune if the Xbox X sells like the pro did.

You can't just aim for a market 1/5th of the size.

It should've been proper and basic economic sense that Mid gen refreshes are not massive sellers. LOL We all said the Pro wasnt going to be a massive seller and the Xbox fanboys on youtube tried to push the fact that the Xbox One X was going to be the game changer that theyve been waiting for to stop Sonys ascent. Microsoft has the money to be competitive...they just need to get in touch with their creative side.

Oh yes, I do! "If" it's anything like X1X (which is why we're calling it X1X2 in the first place) PS5 will crush it several times worse than PS4 vs X1.

That's not knowing. That is merely an opinion based on a historical precedent and is thus potentially not an accurate opinion of the next Xbox.
Aka. Your opinion is not 100% fact.

To be fair, we didn't know how successfull a mid-gen refresh was going to be, no one had really done it before until Sony did it with the Playstation 4 Pro.

And with 1 in 5 consoles sold being a Playstation 4 Pro, it's not exactly ripping up the sales charts and setting console records, consumers prefer the cheaper (And still technically superior to the competition) base Playstation 4. - And who can blame them?

I knew mid gen refreshes wouldnt be a big thing. Its been common knowledge for years, that as the gen passes and pricess drop past fair market price more consumers who did not have the flexible income to make purchases are now open to the possibility.  The Pro was never supposed to tear up the sales charts, but rather be attractive to a smaller share of gaming enthusiasts. Most console gamers in general just want to plug in and play and besides, I am sure Sony knew the console wasnt going to have full 4k because they were waiting until the general market had accepted 4k TV's in America and Europe to strike with the PS5. This wont take long but it wont be within a year and a half either. Perhaps two to three years. To Sony, Blu Ray and 4k adoption is very important. For Microsoft...it only matters in competition with Sony. In the end...thats the truth.
