Forums - Sales Discussion - Xbox sales seem way too low, 5:1 is crazy.

People say Playstation take forever to release games, but look at Xbox. I mean Crackdown has been talked about since 2014.

That's a false narrative that some have been trying very hard to push, and have succeeded to some extent, but it's far from the truth. Much like the "Nintendo has best first party" narrative.

It has been factually proven that MS takes longer to release games after their announcements, and that's not accounting for all the games they've cancelled this gen. Check link for proof:

Where are you getting the 5:1 number?

Front page. Though 5:1 is a bit exaggarated with PS4 numbers being a bit off thanks to previous undertracking...

As to ratios and so forth... there are very few compelling reasons to buy a xbox over a PS4. Even if not 5:1, the skew is a given and natural.

The Xbox brand usually does this in the first half of the year. It's because Microsoft usually owns the holiday marketing.

I don't think its a big deal.... yet. They sold a ton during the holdays, so that probably pulled a few sales from early 2017. Then, there's the X coming in a few months. That probably keeps some people waiting. Add to that the lack of exclusives for XB, against several big PS4 exclusives, plus a new Nintendo console, and it isn't surprising that XB1 is selling poorly.

Now, if they have a bad holiday season, or if they're unable to move consoles even when some big exclusives hit, then it will be worrying.

Well it is more in line with the sales of the original Xbox so it's not too farfetched. 360 did so well partly because it lasted so long, had a steady stream of many games, not to mention Sony kind of shot themselves in the foot with 599USD and launching later, w/fewer games.

360 seems to be the exception w/MS in the games industry rather than the norm. Without Japanese support and little in Europe outside the UK, MS has to rely heavily on the US and right now Switch is the big thing here.

XB1 is still my AAA/third party console of choice however, as I never got into Sony platforms. And it does have a pretty solid release lineup going forward.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident - all men and women created by the, go-you know.. you know the thing!" - Joe Biden

You have to look at the market itself and see what the competition is offering.

PlayStation 4 has had a string of high profile and "exclusive" releases since the turn of the year. Kingdom Hearts, MLB 17, Nioh, Persona 5, Nier Automata, Crash Bandicoot and Horizon. They're offering great bundles, great pricepoints and with the 1-2 punch of VR and Pro, they're still riding the wave from late 2016. There's a lot of attention on the machine and it's consistently getting good games releasing which you wont find on Xbox.

While they're already the platform of choice for the mass market, the continued support from developers and Sony themselves just solidifies this position.

Nintendo Switch launched to huge fanfare with one of the greatest games of all time. It's new, it's exciting and it's got a plethora of exclusive content already planned. It's essentially been sold out since release and it's stealing any real "2nd console" consumers who would have looked at an Xbox One as the companion to a PS4 purchase.

Now when you compare those two platforms to Xbox One in 2017, you basically see that Microsoft have offered nothing worthwhile on the platform that can't be played on rival platforms since what, Gears 4? In October? They released Halo Wars 2 this year and that's all I can think of. When the competition is making moves on an informed and motivated consumer and Xbox is sat with nothing to appeal to those consumers, you'll start to see numbers like the ones we're seeing right now.

Xbox did better when it had a clear price advantage on PS4.

There's only so much oxygen in the room at once. For core gamers, the energy is still on PS4 exclusives and PC. For everyone else, Switch has captured a huge mindshare.

I haven't had a compelling reason to look at Xbox One recently since the S launched. Not to whine too much, but cancelling Scalebound was a huge turnoff for me. I don't want to look forward to games that just get cancelled.

I feel like a lot of people feel the same way.

Same, something changed with the cancellation of Scalebound and this E3's lack of new exclusives. Waited 3 years for Phil Spencer to deliver and he failed. I've nearly pretty much lost all my enthusiasm for the brand. Looking at mind share, PS4 was yuuge with all the exclusives as was the Switch launch, it seems like gaming was all about those 2 platforms in the last 6 months. The only time Xbox came into news was when they showed the Xonex, but left as soon as E3 ended. And then Crash came out and broke sales records, and 2 new FF came out (XIV Stormblood, XII HD). On Switch side u got Arms and Splatoon 2, but nothing on Xbox.

Marketing budget? PS4 will dominate the holidays, not just the entire world, also in the US. Destiny2 , Fifa, SWBF2, COD deals vs Shadow of War?
