Forums - General Discussion - College fees should be much much higher.

Worst thing in the world is someone going to a 40k a year school for a job they don't know if they'll like or worst..if they can even get a job in.

Icing on the cake they are borrowing money they cant pay back.
NO sorry. Mistakes like this cannot be forgiven. They have to have consequences. Even if its only 65 percent of what they borrowed...these people have to pay these loans off or not major in dumb degrees.

What is accelerationism?

"In political and social theory, accelerationism is the idea that either the prevailing system of capitalism, or certain technosocial processes that have historically characterised it, should be expanded, repurposed, or accelerated in order to generate radical social change."

In other words: Push it to the edge... the brinking point, the climax to produce a reaction.

I just don't think it always equates to change, but then it would be called accelerationism, but maybe regression.

On a side note: Education was a privilage that only the rich held before WWII. It was very expensive for anyone to go to universtity, and I think rich conservatives certantly entertain the idea; I wonder how much they also entertain overpopulation?

No.

I think you're mistaking liberal studies, which is a non-specific major, with liberal arts.

What is the difference (genuine question). Googling it, the results literally say "liberal studies, also known as liberal arts".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bachelor_of_Liberal_Studies

The liberal studies major is intended to be a survey of many fields (think a well-rounded person), but if often ends up as a build-your-own degree.

Makes sense. And hey, if it's too expensive for you you can just get a small loan of a million dollars from your parents.

I thought this was common practice. My high school graduation gift was a small loan of ten million from my parents.

Wouldn't that just encourage young Americans to study in Europe instead (where it's already much cheaper)? We've got enough immigrants coming from the east already, we don't need a load from the west too

I think the point is that if college ends up being too expensive then it will just discredit itself as a viable form of higher education and more people will opt for Vocational education or training...

Most college students study Liberal studies and liberal arts. Engineering, medical, law and dental fields of study are far more valuable than the useless liberal arts and liberal studies.
