I love my 3DS and i like that there are a bunch of games coming out for it this year and Q1 2018 but I'm getting sick of this.

The 3DS is 6 years old now and it has more than proven itself to be a fantastic handheld, seriously, perhaps my favorite handheld of all time it may not be as successful as the DS but still a worthy successor unlike WiiU is to Wii. But enough is enough the Switch is supposed to unify console and handheld experiences and as long as Nintendo keeps getting a boner from the 3DS and eventually releases a 3DS follow up it's going to alienate the Switch owners because....

Since Nintendo has virtually NO competition other than smartphones as dedicated gaming devices Nintendo will basically be competing with itself: cheaper handheld device mostly aimed at children vs an expensive console mostly aimed at children... Guess who will win?  Another WiiU vs 3DS situation where 3DS gets all the good stuff and WiiU gets shit.

Now I know that this may all be PR and it's actually another "third pillar" excuse from Nintendo like what they said during the GBA - DS days but really it seems like Nintendo is still not sure whether Switch will do all that well which is worrisome to say the least. Switch will obviously not be another WiiU but we also don't want it to be another Gamecube. I just want Nintendo to focus on Switch not 99% but 100% it's time to step it up and learn from past mistakes. Prove us that you care about your fans and that you're not lazy nor imcompetent.

3DS is awesome but it's time to let go.

Give it another year or so then only focus on the switch

People who want the 3ds to die don't realize that it still provides a good chunk of their money.

It'd be like telling Sony to kill the PS3 once the PS4 came. Why the hell would you do that? That's literally getting rid of more sales

Well unless all of their consoles going forward will be handheld/console hybrids, I expect another dedicated handheld at some point

They would've already stopped support for the 3DS except that Pokémon Go caused a resurgence of interest in the system, giving it a YOY increase in most markets. So they stretched its lifespan a little longer to ride that wave. Most of the non-Pokémon software is pretty low-key, typical for a platform at the end of its run. The system is clearly being sunsetted, just at a slower pace than may have been expected. The Switch is the future and everybody knows it.

They're the same morons who don't understand a dev team ain't just going to drop a game they've been working months/years on just cause shiny new hardware came out making games takes a lot of effort. You're not gonna just drop everything just cause new stuff is out... however, there are people out there who just don't get it. Other times certain games just can't be made for the Switch or other consoles. Not all 3DS games are gonna work on the Switch, that's a fact.

Some people don't realize there are many factors involved, hardware, software, PR-wise, financially, etc for these sorts of decisions. And it's at times like these where Im grateful they have no control over Nintendo or any other major dev/company.

Seriously. After all the dumbasses commenting about how 'lost' Nintendo is, I'm glad they're the ones in charge.

If they got their way, Breath of the Wild would've released as a mess in 2014-2015, the NX would be a boring console with a handheld to accompany it, smash bros would have a new title every year, and nintendo would stop making mario games because of how 'stale' it is.

The more you look at ideas for Nintendo, the more you appreciate what we actually get

I can already here it coming. "See...I was right! Nintendo is stupid for not unifying blababahahahaha"

Nintendohaters, it's going to happen eventually. Just you wait. After 2017, no 3ds. Or 2018. Idk.

Yeah, the article seems to just say that they're still selling 3DS handhelds for the foreseeable future  -- and they should since it still comprises a good amount of their total revenue.  It's not like they're going to just drop that close to 70m userbase all of a sudden and put everything on their new console that's not even at 10m yet.
