Blu-ray came at a bad time, recession and all so i am only slightly disappointed in these numbers.

Blu-ray came without enough amo for it's guns... the only thing that will make it mainstream is if 3D goes mainstream.

Id like to think price will have a larger effect than 3D.

Exactly my point

it's not the price of the blu-ray players, they've had them for as low as $78 since christmas last year. The movies do need to come down in price though.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Preliminary numbers coming in for this last week are looking good, could be upwards of 18%. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy did really well.

Blu-ray and Digital delivery up, but overall home media is down

By Ben Drawbaugh posted Apr 18th 2010 8:31PM
DEG logoFor most 2009 was a bad year for business, but the first quarter of 2010 was still worse for the home media market by 8 percent according to the Digital Entertainment Group. Obviously the home media market is highly dependent on the movies released in the theater a few months before, but the studios still hoped that Blu-ray and digital delivery could at least keep things flat. The good news is that Blu-ray movie sales in the 1st quarter were up 74 percent compared to the same time frame last year and rentals were up 36 percent, while at the same time Blu-ray player sales were up 125 percent and digital delivery was up 27 percent to $617 million. While the first quarter wasn't that bad in the grand scheme of things, all eyes will be on the second, because if you can't have a red letter month when Avatar is released, can you ever?

Blu ray movies need to drop in price.. I think $34.99 and $29.99 is asking too much.. they should all be $25 and $19 for new movies

Most do actually meet that criteria,  even at the B&M stores are they starting to keep those prices.  Only Amazon has it for just about every title

Once Avatar releases this week on Blu-Ray and DVD, the sales should go WAY up.
