Forums - PC Discussion - Steam Link, is it worth it wireless?

I'm in the market to buy a new PC.  And when I do buy one, I'll heavily consider the Steam Link.  What is the Steam Link might you ask?  Just recently coming across this, it allows you to play your Steam library on your television while your PC is in another room.  For data to go from your PC to the Steam Link, you can either hardwire via ethernet from your router to the Steam Link or you can stream via Wifi.  I believe Valve recommends hardwire.  But does anyone here have the Steam Link, are you using it via Wifi, and what's your experience so far?  Hardwiring is out of the question at this point without some major finagling so not going to go there, not worth the effort.  Wifi seems to be my only viable option.  Thoughts?

wifi is not the best experience unless you have a 5ghz router. At least that's my personal experience.

I was seriously tempted to get one during the recent summer sale when they were only $15 iirc. Looking at user reviews, though, using wifi for it is very suboptimal and I'm not currently in a good position to run a cable from one room to the other.

I'm sort of in the market for a new router as well.  My gaming room and home office (where the router is) share a common wall, but I'll have to run a cable through a total of five-ish rooms to get the proposed future home of the Steam Link.  While both rooms share a common wall, the router is on the opposite of the room.

yeah that's the best option if you don't wanna deal with cables, steam link supports it so compatibility is not a problem.
