Forums - Politics Discussion - Some Americans Calling for Death of Woman Who Urinated on Flag

Reading the comments here, I totally agree with her now. She showed how nationalistic and intolerant people still are.

If you get offended by this (even if it's only a little bit), then that's problematic.

If it's not illegal to urinate or burn the flag, then what's the issue? I totally understand it's in very bad taste, and she most likely did to rile people. But her death is not the answer, especially for the flag. I'd get if they give her a 3-6 months sentence in jail, maybe even less. But why the death of her? It's baffling.

You people are thinking too hard. The reality is people kill for virtually any reason, its what we do!

Seriously?

Did you not get the memo we live in a world that's easily offended by essentially everything. People in the media are treated as monsters if they say a racial slur, but nobody is allowed to be offended by a flag getting pissed on? Meh... okay.

Being offensive is actually illegal in some developed countries, could lead to suicide or something.

And these people who want her dead, I'm guessing mostly men: What would their reaction be if she was a hottie who wore the flag as a sexy bikini? :)

Terrible analogy, if she was wearing a bikini people would just look and probably say she looks nice.

What if she pee'd on a picture of Mohamed?

Well, according to the code of conduct: "The flag should not be used as "wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery", or for covering a speaker's desk, draping a platform, or for any decoration in general (exception for coffins).".

My point is that it's a piece of cloth and it's important that we have the right to even denegrade it, even if it means pissing on it or wearing it.

And if she'd peed on a picture of Mohammed, I hope people would defend her right to do so aswell, or don't you agree?

Tbh, i agree with her point. It's either freedom or none.
Of course, i found her acts to be very disgusting, but it's still legal nonetheless. I just hope that if tomorrow i masturbate to a PICTURE of a 10 years old little girl and jizz in her PICTURE mouth or burn a nintendo console. I expect people to defend me as well.
I would burn a nintendo console tho.

No edgy.

I don't care what she pee's on (i don't think many people would defend her if she pee'd on Mo), She knew what she was doing she should face the consequences.  Why would i defend a total stranger?

Freedom and the US flag aren't the same thing. Even freedom and the US aren't the same thing. She's literally pissing on a piece of cloth she owns and nothing else. That piece of cloth has some symbolic value, but you can't really piss on symbolic value.

The comment was originally in response to the claim that it is ironic that she's being attacked because she pissed on an American flag, which is symbolic of freedom of expression.

That symbolism is somewhat debatable these days. Anyway, even if we assume it has that symbolic value, it should still be obvious to everyone her intention wasn't to 'piss on freedom of expression' but to show what must be tolerated if freedom of expression is wanted. To see this as a bad thing, you must not be even trying to see the point.

I will defend your right to do that. In the same paragraph, I will also attack you for your poor taste, which is within my freedom of expression. I might also look for a place to tip you as a potential pedophile though, but freedom of expression guarantees your right to what you do.

Have you been reading my posts? Because I've already said I don't care and am not offended by it. I read a comment on how it was stated that the flag could be seen as a symbol of freedom of expression, so I commented on how it's not only ironic that people want her dead over it, but that she symbolically pissed all over her right to do it in the first place.

Have you been reading my posts? I never even hinted that you might care or be offended. I was talking about people in general. I admit there's room for a misunderstanding in the last sentence because f*ck English and its passive, but it was not directed at you. I'm sorry if you took it personally because of my somewhat poor choice of words though. Anyway, as for the last part of your sentence, I direct you back to my previous post: debatable, and even then requires almost deliberately trying to see it as offensive.

She made a political statement. Nothing should be done to her. No Jail. No Death. No Punishment.

Freedom of speech, freedom of expression, freedom of movement, freedom of association, freedom of religion... Means... You need to put up with political statements like this, because... It's Freedom.
