Well, if certain developers don't want to put in the effort, they shouldn't support the system. I mean, why whine about the situation when you could just not support it and stay on PS4/Xbox/PC? Switch is going to favor those who understand the intention of the Switch and are willing to develop software that is specifically designed for Switch. And of course, he didn't know how successful the Switch would continue to be back in April so I'd guess he's eating those words now...

With Wii U, Nintendo's job was to promote their software and software that was prone to improving Wii U sales. As, Wii U was in a terrible position at the time. Why would they try to promote a game like Oddworld over Mutant Mudds or even Mario Tennis Ultra Smash? It just doesn't make sense. I'd understand if there was a deal that outlined and set in stone the idea that Nintendo would promote their game but there wasn't and he should have been prepared for that.

It's not Nintendo's job to help developers sell software on their system...that's the developer's job. lol That's where marketing comes in. If it doesn't sell even with marketing your game just isn't what the audience wants, he's been in the business for a while he should know that. It's not like Oddworld was some huge franchise to begin with, XD

Why not both?

See that is the issue right there. That mentality.

Remember "riseing sea raises all boats" ?

Not with nintendo.

He basically said even during the Wii level of success, only ones really makeing good money off that system was Nitnendo themselves.

Sony see themselves as a platform for gameing, when they do well, so do 3rd party.

Its what brings 3rd party games.

Also "Well, if certain developers don't want to put in the effort, they shouldn't support the system."

They do, but they cant do day-2-date for most of it, because the nintendo system is much harder to get games running on (portable/home console modes, weaker hardware, workarounds needed to be found ect).

So basically Nintendo punish 3rd party, because their system is harder to develope for, by then not showing any support to the developers that do put in effort to port games. By not bothering to promote their games (even during software droughts), because their mentality is "we f*** you over if you dont day to date". Its a unfair system.

idk man, Ubi, Capcom, and Activision made some cash on the wii. Not to mention, how can you blame nintendo for making better games than its competition? Since the NES, the top games on Nintendo systems have beem Nintendo games.

Then supersize my fries.

maybe when you stop whining maybe

I'm not whining nearly as bad as Lorne Lanning.

I'm not a fan of Lorne Lanning, as he comes off as kind of a dick, but he does make some good points in this interview.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

In this interview? Was anything right? I mean, he may have been a point, put he do it no right by arguing drunk or so. That's just my point. You bringing stuff up he didn't. So that's fine, but people criticizing him because he brought up other stuff that is just wrong? Yes, that is OK. We could have a discussion about Nintendo and 3rd-parties, but this thread is contaminated, because the thread started on such wrong premises. Make another thread about Nintendo and 3rd-parties, ignore Lanning and make better points. But this position is just undefendable.

EDIT: And pokoko, you are also losing reputation if you try to defend this mess Lanning said. You usually make better points.

I admit I don't know anything about Lanning at all.  My point has to do with the posts that rush to discredit everything with the fallacy of "he was wrong about this so everything else is wrong, as well."

The issue is that he ruins his credibility by turning it into a rant and being highly insensitive to Iwata. I don't think talking about a cancer victim like that is exactly appropriate, especially since Iwata died before he could see how successful the NX would be.

Matter of fact is that Nintendo's treatment of other devs has been great this gen and okay in gens 7/8. We do know they were terrible before and are still flawed. No one is claiming Nintendo is perfect.

This all could've been prevented had he kept his cool and not said the idiotic statements.

I am not sure about his take on third parties, Nintendo really seemed to push recent indies pretty well. Now to be fair, they don't do this for all indies or third parties but lets be honest if the game had enough potential in Nintendo's eyes they usually push it decently on their eShop.

There's also a notification showing all new eShop releases.

Currently there's 2 million Switch users I believe (probably more). Assuming only 50% of them have internet and use notifications, that's 1 million potential buyers. The Wii U had a larger userbase by the end of its life, so its not like Nintendo ignored him
