Forums - Gaming Discussion - Instances when game updates changed (or even ruined) a game for you...

So, in recent times, there have been a few updates in games that have changed games for me in such a way it has either annoyed me or in the case of one of them put me off it. With ongoing changes being able to be made to games for the same of DLC sales, add ons or balancing, there is always going to be a few hit and misses, right?

My examples are:

Tekken 7 - Most recent 1.03 update, simple update, online improvements update colour palette in customisation to correct 'blacks'. "Blacks?..." I thought, "what was wrong with... oh, you mean pure black". See I had created outfits using black a lot and in the past week I'd found that with the Dragonov skeleton costume you could apply black to both parts of it essentially making him look like a perfect silhouette. It was amazing. Apparently, they didn't like this and have removed it but what they did was remove black from customisation. Now all blacks are dark grey, so you had a character with black hair? not anymore. Customisation need fixing overall, as when you go to a bright colour, press to change to advance palette, it washes the colour out and it more pastal like but alas. This is a small issue.

Battlefield 1 - Around the time for the first DLC after month of enjoyable play they update the game. Some of the updates graphically put me off the game. Suddenly lighting effects were huge and sometimes it was hard to see anything because of the bright sun. When you were low health your character had the red blood effect and greyed out the screen and they enhanced this making it hard to see who you were shooting when low health. Changes the game didn't need but affected my gameplay none the less.

Black Ops 3 - the worse as in a way it was a prolonged thing. The addition of supply crates weapons and melee weapons changed the game. Before hand it was a fun arcade shooter with silly powers. Then they started adding extras for the sake of youtubers doing box openings and what we got were lobbies full of people running around like idiots with boxing gloves one shotting you... with a boxing glove. i know it wasn't serious game anyway but it took a large amount of fun i had for the game out of it.

There probably obviously worse examples you can think of when updates actually broke games but I'm talking more personal things, what are your's?

Hmm, pie.

Skyrim for PS3...

It made my second playthrough much smoother and it did not break my game 80 hours into it. My first save lasted me quite a while (most of the vanilla game and partway into Dawnguard dlc), but I saw the bugs catching up to me and since the patch was not retro active, it was time to start a new character while making different choices.

So I guess it changed the game in a good way for me as I no longer needes to avoid doing certain things in fear of breaking my save file.

I usually don't play games long enough to even get a first update. RL updates have so far been all amazing.

RL?.... Real life?

Hmm, pie.

Destiny when they fixed the loot cave because at that time the loot drop rate was far to low, so I really enjoyed getting real loot in the game for a change. They fixed the loot system later on but at launch they gave you nothing.

Just wait until he gets the parenthood or redundancy updates then

Let's hope that the game-breaking update doesn't occur for a while, either!

None that I can think off.

The only one that really comes to mind is the update from Blazblue Continuum Shift to BBCS2. They turned my 2 mains Bang and Litchi from S tier characters to B tier at best. Although they also gave my secondary Hakumen a lot of buffs.
