What do you want in the future?

Switch Ultra HD 168 47.19%

Switch home console only, more powerful 40 11.24%

Dumbed down Switch mobile only 25 7.02%

Something brand new and i... 123 34.55%

Total:356

Alrighty, we all love contemplating the future on this sight so here's my latest thought. Historically, I have almost always been supportive of Nintendo's "innovation first" mentality when it comes to their hardware. I loved how much the Wii/DS line changed up the industry compared to the GC/GBA. I loved how you could take the Wii U tablet to the bathroom and the kitchen, and I somewhat enjoyed the 3d effect of the 3ds (though not in years). The Switch, in my opinion, is their greatest innovation ever. It has better motion controls than the wii (and WAAAY less clunky) and is the most convenient device I've ever owned other than a handheld (but the fact that it can player full fledged games makes up for that).

In reality, the Switch is an evolution of the wii u gamepad. It looks so similar, but functions much better both in power, energy, ability to go anywhere, and connecting EASILY to a television.

This all leads me to something I've realized about my desire for Nintendo in the future; I just want them to keep making stronger versions of what they started with the Wii U and the Switch. I don't ever want to go back to a lame console that you can't take on the go or plug in easily to a tv. Let the Sony and Microsoft fans hall around tons of massive hardware. I basically want the Switch to be the new playstation (better hardware each time, but not changing up the formula too much), because, at least in my current mindset, I can't imagine enjoying a system more than I do this small, convenient, incredibly mobile device.

What say you?

Sounds like a good idea to me. Switch sales over the next few years will determine whether or not it happens though.

The concept of a powerful handheld with TV boost mode will be continued as hardware is getting better and cheaper. I expect a Switch 2 in some years (back compatible) which will perfect that concept.

However, at some point there is no sense in putting more hardware power in a handheld bc of the limited screen size (no 4K needed). Then we will see new hardware concepts, maybe virtual reality.

I really doubt they will do VR because they are family focused and VR is very "sit in a dark corner for 12 hours a day by yourself" mentality lol

I mean it's crushing the Wii U and doing Wii good in certain areas (and has tons of shortages). The game attach rates are insane for the big Nintendo games, as well. That's a pretty good indication that they did the right thing.

Switch U.

Nothing.

I don't want any new gimmicks, I don't want anything different. Switch is honestly exactly what a gaming console should be in this day and age, so if we need a successor I'd just want a Switch 2 with better specs, battery, OS and new features.

Exactly my thoughts! That's why I made the thread; was curious if anyone else on this website felt the same way as me lol

This is a good early sign.  But, Nintendo needs sales of probably 70mm over the next 5-7 years if this is going to be their only hardware going forward.  It is way too early to determine if that's going to happen.

I agree with you Dulfite. All they need to do is expand on that concept and offer refreshes of the Switch with better specs. They really nailed it this time around.

VR will improve quite a lot in the next decade, at some point the devices will look like sunglasses closer to the AR concept of Microsoft.
