Monocle, you should change the title to "CNN attempts to control the memes of production".

That's a solid idea

Because Trump's camp over at their subreddit is CLEARLY completely innocent of this type of behavior

Oh wait

I won't lie, the user and many trump supporters are toxic online, especially in places like Reddit. Unfortunately, the terrible users outweigh the good ones and create a disgusting mess

Reddit needs to get rid of places The_Donald. If they're so concerned about hate speech, why aren't they doing anything about a group which likes to doxx anyone who disagrees with them?

Unfortunately, it seems a lot of trump supporters are flipping out over this (rightfully so), but it is honestly hypocritical considering they do this on a higher level :/

he isn't "just a shitposter" anymore since he claimed to be the source of the (pretty harmless) meme video (well, somebody else altered it)

after the president himself used his video he got to be a celebrity on r/t_d and got his own tag, lots of applause etc, which means his problematic views (probably his honest views, "I was just trolling" is nothing but a lame excuse 90% of the time) could very well influence others at that point, so the media is actually acting responsibly by asking if he wants to put his real name to what he is saying/doing

anonymously riding/fueling the internet hate-train is not a right

....so basically people with views you deem to be offensive shouldn't be allowed to be anoymous online?

so basically you say you are unable to determine what is outright "hatred" or ment to incite it? weird, I find it quite easy

The first great meme war.
Why is this news?

According to the article, the list was a public online petition created by AntiFa and users willingly put their own personal information in it for everyone to see. 4chan took that list.

Reddit has nothing do do with it bc they have a strong anti-doxing policy.

Buzzfeed is fake news.

I wouldn't limit it to JUST Trump supporters. A majority of anything political online, right or left, is toxic. Most of the time if I get any sort of enjoyment out of the political landscape, it's memes, so yeah, I'm not too happy at CNN right now.

There's a bunch of idiots online, and they should be called out when they go too far (CNN doxxing is WAY too far considering the meme itself). Unfortunately for people who don't like seeing Pro-Trump memes, there's gonna be a lot more now feeling justified because their right to freedom of speech as they see it is under attack, thanks to CNN (I just find memes funny, unless it's touchy subject material, so in all reality I'll be laughing at the swarm of upcoming CNN memes).

The toxic nature of many people just makes politics an awful topic nowadays.

I'll see so many pro-trump memes which are obvious attempts to just be offensive. I can't call out on it without being called a triggered libtard/sjw (or whatever the hell they say). On the flip side, some people will bash trump all day, but will go nuts if you offend them.

It's confusing. Where are all these people in real life? I'd like to believe they keep it on the internet so people don't realize how childish they are

The first European Great Power is chiming in

ugh..... What's the most silliest thing about this is that anyone or many persons could make a similar meme. Threatening to dox someone over a meme is just deplorable (used in the right context, hillary) and only encourages more memes. CNN clearly doesn't understand how the internet works or how people react to things.

CNN is just proving anyone who's says that they are fake news and a propaganda outlet for democrats by doing stuff like this.

I agree, you don't need to dive into the abyss known as Reddit to find gifs and memes like it and anyone can make one. This is the whole "Trump gets 2 scoops of ice cream and everyone else 1" all over again, but 100x worse considering a gif meme was all it took for them to threaten the individual. Sure, he may have also done some deplorable things online but since when did CNN become the internet police?
