First off, let me wish a happy 4th of July to our American friends. I'm sure the excitement is in the air, so let me help join in with others. Now let me start my story...

Now I've been thinking about this for a while, how exactly I would write about this to vgchartz, and I think I've finally got it. So here it goes...

...So today I was heading into work, you know like most other weekdays (we had Monday off). I'm just doing my own thing, paperwork and emails and boring shit like that. Well I was doing my thing, I had my boss call out my name to come into his office. Well being called into the boss' office was never a good sign, and  I'm thinking this is the end of my career here; he's going to fire me and say something like "you've been a great person to have here, but our company is facing hard times" or whatever, and it doesn't help that people around the office were all staring .  Now I'm not the most religious person; I guess you could call me the Christan who never bothers to be a Christan. But I was scared shitless, so I took my plea to god and prayed to him that I would be able to keep my job. So after this little display, I walk into my office shaking like someone with a fever.

So I'm in his office, and he tells me to sit down. He starts speaking something along the lines of, "look, you've been a great asset to this company, and I know how much dedication you have to it...", and I'm thinking this is about to be it, I'm going to be fired. "...but, I think its time that you take some time off." So I'm just sitting there, thinking about what he just said, and I'm thinking in my head, "HOLY SHIT, I'M NOT FIRED, OH THANK THE LORD I'M GOING TO BE ALRIGHT." So I remain calm, and I ask why he thinks this, and he says something along the lines of me having too much vacation time, and how I spend too much time working and that I should take a break sometimes. Now I'm not going to go against my boss' word. I honestly have nothing better to do, but I won't piss the guy I work for. So he tells me he doesn't want to see me here for the rest of the month at a minimum, and I of course promise to follow his "order". He then sends me home for the rest of the day, and now I'm here.

So I have pondered why he did this, but he was right about the fact I don't use much vacation time. In my 5 years with the company, I've only used 3 weeks of vacation time in that entire time span (we work monday to friday, so 3 weeks is actually more like 4 work weeks). Now we get 3 weeks of vacation time each year (full weeks), so I have built up quite a bit of unused vacation time. Most people usually use theres in the summer, so usually the boss wants to keep them around this time of the year (I call it the office exodus, and honestly it is sometimes nice for the place to be more quiet), but the office has been unusally busy this summer, so maybe that was another factor of sending me home as well?

So now I'm thinking about what to do now. I'm not sure I want to go on a vacation - I mean I'm just starting to save, and I really don't want to put my energy there. I could sit on my couch all day and watch TV, but I really don't want that either. I could hang around with friends, but they have things to do for the workday as well. So the only thing I've got left is gaming and vgchartz posting, and with so much freetime now available, I have decided I could start whoring for gamerscore again, as well as posting on this site more often. Yes, I know how "amazing" my goal is, but sometimes we need to go the extra mile. Honestly, I don't really know what to do, so I'll have a poll up and ask. But at least I'm ok, and at least I still have a job...

tl;dr version:

Thought I was going to be fired, was sent home by boss because I have too much vacation time, don't know what to do next.

As we all know your passion for islam i would say you should take your time and convert to it ;)

Yay vacation! I definitely recommend travelling somewhere fun but somewhat close.

Hey, I went on a cruise last year. Granted, it was hell, but still. And... that conference in San Diego was kind of nice. I had a nice 3 days there, and the weather was good. So... yeah.

All work and no play makes Jack a sad boy, Your boss is encouraging you to find a better work-life balance. An employee that spends too much time focusing on their job tends to get burnt out. Your boss clearly values you, and doesn't want this to happen. The fact that you went in his office thinking you were getting fired might indicate that you might have a bit of imposter syndrome, and working super hard thinking you have to "fake it till you make it". You're probably doing a great job and you don't even know it.

Enjoy the time off. You earned it. Use the time to reconnect with people you care about.

Ehh... maybe your right. Then again, I'm not necessarly one who's good at following advice.

Im just like you, I totally forget that I have days off and at the end of the year HR tells me I have to take them or im gonna lose them.
