Master's of Orion 2 takes the crown for me used to play it so much back in the day :D Had countless hours of fun.

I generally like all the 90's PC TBS games they were just so good back then, Loved spending countless attempts to clear the early Xcom games Terror from the Deep was probably my favourite along with setting up local multiplayer games of Heroes of Might and Magic 3 :) Damn they were good times.

I just never really got into the modern era of TBS games very much they don't seemed to of changed all that much apart from graphics or offer much different and generally can't keep my attention like they used to.

Heroes of Might and Magic 3 is a masterpiece and is probably one of the best, if not the best, strategy games of all times.Thats game simply gets every single thing right.

Its such a shame that Ubisoft squandered the franchise on the ground, burned it and pissed over it.Well, Heros of Might and Magic 4 wasnt that great either, so it was probably the lack of talent to begin with.

But yeah, HMM 3 is an unique game.As far as I know, its an one of a kind that no one ever done anything like that before.A shame really.Such an amazing concept.

I never played 3 but I was looking into it on Steam surfering the reviews.  Pretty much Ubisoft gimped the 3 version on Steam while GOG I believe has all the expansions and what not.  So Ubi put an inferior version of 3 on Steam.  That is what held me off from pulling the trigger on 3.  I was first introduced to the series with 2.

Then buy it on GOG.Heroes of Might and Magic 3 should be must buy to anyone. Its really an unique experience.I mean, I havent been playing many strategy games nowadays, but I have been following, and noone does what this game does. And its simply marvelous.I even recommend you to just plain emulate it if you dont want to spend the money, and if you end up liking it, buy it.

And yeah, dont go for the Steam version, as it just has the base game, and the expansions have superb campains. This game should be a must play to anyone who considers yourselfs a gamer.just my opinion, obviously.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Just finished last edit of poll hopefully.  It has been added now.

Did you really not include Final Fantasy Tactics in that poll?...

I recently discovered there is an Open-Source-Engine (vcmi) that allows to play HMM3 on Linux, if you have the game to provide the assets - and well my last weekend was gone. It's a long time since I played it, but it felt great instantly in the moment I started it up. I was fast back in the game and have so much fun. This is indeed a really great game, the age doesn't matter.

Ogre Battle 64. To me, almost a perfect game.

I wouldn't consider it turn based, but it's easily my favorite N64 game. Hell, it's my favorite 5th Gen game.

Alright I'll have to check it out on GOG.  I never even dowloaded any other client besides Steam but I have seen humble bundle sales of GOG which I was interested in.  GOG would probably be the only other store front I'd consider downloading.  I'll take your advice and get that game in a month or so once I recover from the Steam summer sale.

Just remembered: Chaos Overlords was another strategy gem.

Yeah, completely agree with this. And I dont know, there is something appealing in the game art style.Dont know if its the nostalgia talking, but I just love it.The same works for Starcraft.SC2 artstyle is mediocre in my opinion, for SC is simply great, even to this day, with horrible resolution and all.
