Forums - Gaming Discussion - What is your playstyle?

Hey there again! I have a three day weekend, so I am taking as much time as possible to communicate with my VGChartz brethren. I have made this post to find out what you like in your playstyle. We can break this down in four ways (which are shown below in bold).Throw in PC if you like. Who knows, it might intrigue people to see what you find to be more appealing for a certain style of game. Look at the choices as is and follow my lead. This will get you more acquainted with your gaming brethren and sisters. Break down it down by the genres you frequent. Even if you do not see me feature a genre, add yours in and play ball. I would love to see what you love and we can discuss what we like and dislike.

IE:

1. Platform of choice for gameplay(You can break this down per genre type): I will use mine in a fully customizable manner. This is indiscriminant of platform.

-Platform of choice overall: Playstation.

-Platformers, Action Adventure: Playstation

FPS, Racers : Xbox One

2.  Inverted/ sensitivity

-IE: Non-inverted.  Balanced sensitivity

-3. Switch alternative Play style of choice (Optional if you have a switch)

IE: Switch: Portable or docked (Yes...I thought I would like portable better)

Indie Games: Portable

Action adventure/ party games: Docked

4. Dislikes about Platform controllers:

-IE:Xbox One controllers are bumpers are not spaces out as well as the 360's triggers and bumpers. Its bad for mixing and matching between options compared to the Playstation controller imho. The Switch games perform more beautifully when docked even though they are nice on the go. I just love the glow on the screen from breath of the wild and the pro controller in my hand.

-Non inverted

I 95% of the time play the Switch docked.

In terms of platform, I buy all third parties on PS4 because that is the console I want to support and I am a bit invested in trophies. That is in spite of the Xbox having a better controller.

I don't like inverted, so yeah, non-inverted. Sensitivity I don't tend to fiddle with really. The only game I remember messing around with in the last couple of years is Project Cars, but I had to fiddle with a load of things there, because the default console handling was shit. FPS games and similar I never really look

I don't have any particular complaints about the Xbox controller. I wish the PS4 controller was a bit bigger and had rumble feedback in the triggers

1. Platform of choice: Now that I have one, the Switch, but I'll play some games here and there on my PC when I feel like it.
I'll try to buy most 3D platformers and adventure or puzzle games on Switch when available (Really hoping A Hat in Time and Psychonauts 2 come to it!).

2. Inverted/Sensitivity: Non-inverted, because inverted confuses my brain. Sensitivity is usually the default one, I rarely feel the need to change it.

3. Switch playstyle: Mainly portable mode right now, but that's mostly because I need to fix my TV in order to play it there again. Also because it's super convenient and comfy to just play lying in my bed.

4. Dislike about platform controllers: I'm not a fan of the right Joy-Con having the analog stick below the buttons, it just feels wrong. I know why it's that way, but I'd rather have the analog above them if I could, just like on Wii U =P

Platform of choice: PSVR

I'll try anything really except sports games. I prefer smooth movement, the faster the better, fast turning so it can mimic using a mouse on PC to look around. So maximum sensitivity, non inverted I guess. (usually don't need to change it)

I'm currently playing Cavernous wastes, nichest of niche. Last night I seemed to be the first to finish the game and worked out by the percentage of the trophies that it has sold 63 copies so far... I hope these percentages are regional for the dev's sake.

I also tried coop in Farpoint but gave up after half an hour of failed matchmaking attempts and did some challenges instead. Got to get my practice in for when the AZ Sunshine pro patch comes out. And I checked out the pro patch for Windlands, looks very nice which it already did. I guess it's sharper in the distance now. The game didn't really need a pro patch. It also added move support yet I prefer analog sticks for free movement.

Non PSVR: prefer to play on a projector, including Switch (docked)
RPGS are good for that, the only genre still missing from psvr (until Skyrim in november)

Co-op: currently playing Syberia 3 with my wife. We tried Nex Machina coop before but that only made her angry.

My favorite genre: Racing. Mostly single player races, I'm not patient enough for matchmaking. Since racing in VR I don't want to go back to racing on a screen.

I usually bite down in a game for a while until I finish it or find something more interesting. I hardly ever go back to a game unless it's a racing game. (sorry Botw and HZD)

Dislikes: Joy-cons are too small. DS4 battery life sucks.

Look, I'm a PC guy!

  • Platform of choice: PC
  • Inverted: No
  • Sensitivity: Default, unless it feels wrong (which happens very rarely)
  • Dislikes about platform control method(s): Keyboard buttons are either down or not, no intermediate positions. Repositioning mouse can suck, and grip can worsen easily in certain types of games where you can't correct grip as often as you'd like.

Currently in relatively heavy use are also PS3 and PS4, but they're mainly for exclusives I can't get on PC. The same answers go for them, with the exception of control method dislikes: I strongly dislike aiming using a controller. It feels like fighting against the controller in addition to playing the game.

I don't have special rules.

I just play games what I want to play.

1 - PS4, PSV, and PS3. Currently in that order.

2 - Inverted. Just the y-axis though. I leave the x-axis normal. I started with inverted in early flight games. The first being ACE on the C64. I ended up using it in tank games like Arctic Fox as well. Yeah, I'm old. I stuck with it in subsequent flight/tank games and by the time proper 3D games were being made for consoles, it just felt right. Depending on the game, or even a specific character class, I mat bump up the sensitivity, but always start out at the default setting.

3 - I don't have a Switch, but would likely use it in portable mode most of the time.

4 - Oh boy. I could write an essay on this one, but I'll stick with the DS3. I do like the controller, but I bought 3 late model DS3's last summer, and the build quality has changed for the worse in every way. The material they used for the late model DS3's is cheap. The sticks wear out, with a ring forming on the base of the stick as it rubs against the housing, almost immediately, complete with visible plastic dust. I lost calibration on the all three within weeks, and returned a one for an exchange. A terrible fall from grace for a once sturdy controller.

- "If you have the heart of a true winner, you can always get more pissed off than some other asshole."

1. Platform of choice for gameplay
3DS mainly for the past few years. Unless I want to play something multiplayer, which would likely be on Wii U. Unless it's a fighting game besides Smash which I'd do on 360 or PS4.

2. Inverted/ sensitivity
-Inverted Y axis. I get really disoriented otherwise. Sensitivity slightly above average for most games. Wiimote motion controlled aiming would actually be my choice if it was possible in all games.

-3. Switch alternative

Except for Zelda or multiplayer stuff, it's been almost entirely undocked. For things like Xenoblade it'll probably change.

4. Dislikes about Platform controllers:
I don't the joystick placement on PS controllers. Just feels unnatural.
The New 3DS XL second controller nub is virtually unusable for anything except minor camera adjustment.

Platform of choice: Xbone
Inverted: No
Switch Mode: Don't have one
Dislike about controllers: The DualShock 4 has a shit battery, laughably cheap material covering its analog sticks, and bad analog stick placement. Even games I bought for PS4 thinking I'd play them quite a bit, I end up not playing much because I just don't gel with the controller. The Xbox controller has a weird mic syncing issue sometimes if you replace batteries while playing.
