His own quote:

I think even now the Nintendo platform is still a game console that is played by a wide range of age groups, but basically, I think it’s hardware for kids and teens.

At the risk of sounding like a corporate stooge, far out these #FreeMelee/#FreeSplatoon/Etikon warriors are annoying on social media atm. They're swamping any kind of Nintendo discussion and shouting down anyone saying anything positive.
You can't just do whatever you want with a company's intellectual property, if they let it slide just once they'd be opening the floodgates.

It's hard to argue against them when Nintendo shut down something that was gonna support a charity AND stopped people from playing Melee tournaments online.

It may not have been great PR but they were completely within their rights to stop people taking liberties with their property.

Well it's not like they were making mods like making Princess Peach have giant breasts pop out of her shirt or Kirby piss blood everywhere, nor were they for profit.

They're still taking liberties with a company's intellectual property, specifically a conservative and protective company that is well known by now not to be tolerant of such things.

The outcome should've been obvious, but now they're throwing a tantrum and being all negative and annoying on any social media discussion to do with Nintendo. I mean if they wanna have their hashtag campaign fine, but I've seen them insulting folks just for pointing out that ultimately Nintendo are within their rights.

I know they're within their rights, but it's still just making them look like jerks.

I don't disagree that it hasn't been great PR for them, but it's still irritating to have to have comments sections flooded with people spamming hashtags and negativity and attacking people who disagree with them.

If it makes you feel better, most of the people looking at this 'bad PR' either don't give a shit or have no idea what they're complaining about.  All Nintendo has to do is say nothing because these people will inevitably wear out their welcome and become so annoying that Nintendo fans and the general public will want them to get screwed over even harder.

Try using the Apple logo and calling your product iPhone and see what happens the is a reason you need to be licensed to use a trademark, it doesn't matter what the cause is a company has to take action otherwise everyone would abuse it and cite the people using it as a defence. The one thing with Nintendo is that they're consistent on their stance whether people like it or not.

That's always been Melee fans in a nutshell sadly they're not a good community in any sense and feel they should get special treatment, the irony is that what you see them doing now is mass hypocrisy as when Project M a mod for Brawl was pulled by Nintendo they laughed and celebrated saying it's good so karma has come to town 10 years later.
