So I haven't seen a topic about Edgar Wright's new film, Baby Driver. Featuring Ansel Elgort, Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamm, and Jamie Foxx, the movie focuses on Ansel Elgort playing the character of Baby, a getaway driver working for Kevin Spacey. Spacey's character pieces together heists, and Baby is his key getaway driver who's driving skills and intuitive thinking when it comes to crafting camoflauge even in the midst of a chase is next to none. Baby isn't partial to his job, and after meeting a woman he starts to fall for, a chain of events is triggered that carries the movie through a particularly strong third act.
I was deeply impressed with this movie, not because it is necessarily all that original, but because Edgar Wright's ability to focus on style makes everything standout. Elgort's, Spacey's, and Hamm's characters in particular were excellent. The practical effects were not only appreciated, but well directed. Every chase scene was a treat. I doubt this movie will be a box office blockbuster, but it really will be a standout even in a Summer packed with Wonder Woman, the Planet of the Apes finale, and Spiderman.
This movie comes wholly recommended, and if you like fast cars and interesting characters, you may end up liking this movie as much as me.
