Mario 2D sells more if the system is already popular. NSMB Wii U didn't push hardware for the reason that 2D platformers aren't system sellers, especially on consoles and especially when the NSMB games are too similar to each other.

I think the reaction for Odyssey says it all, it's the most hyped Mario game since Mario Galaxy and possibly 64, and will undoubtedly be a system seller.

I've seen a lot of people say they were satisfied with support for the Wii U and there is no doubt the Switch will get more.

So you're referring to normal Wii U owners here, not the rabid, intense Wii U fans, correct?

OT: Questioning SMO doesn't seem to be necessary. Reception of the game after E3 is sky-high, I wouldn't worry. In addition, FEW will probably be more successful in the West, which shows you continue to place your worry in the wrong places. The first year line-up is quite well thought out. The following years are obviously unknown for the most part, but that goes to show for most consoles, even though some other manufacturers announce years before.

The one good thing about a long off Metroid is that it will give the console something for the future. Plus if that old rumor about Nintendo making more new I.P's is true they should have ideas coming out to keep the system with new titles.

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

Yeah, Nintendo has by far the worst first party software output, both in terms of quality and quantity. I think it's about time people started calling them out on it.

Mario Odyssey will be a huge success. Yes, the 2D ones sell more, but it's not like the 3D ones are sales disasters. They still have very high sales. Overall Nintendo will be fine financially, and I'm excited for some great games!

I personally don´t see any issues with those titles.

All of those are successfull franchises, with titles selling more than 1 million copies regularly, although some sell better than others and there´s a few exceptions (Federation Force...,ugh)

It feels that it´s more of a case of being or not being interested in Nintendo´s franchises. That´s ok if you don´t like them, it´s just personal taste, but as a market/sales point-of-view, prospects are good for all these games.

You forgot Pokken, Yoshi and Kirby, and MarioxRabbids if we include all exclusives.

You're worrying over nothing.

Edit: Also Fire Emblem.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

We regularly hear about Nintendo's third party software issues which are legit but maybe not as bad as people think.  How about the first party problems?  Switch started off extremely well with Zelda: BOW and Mario Kart 8, but I am starting to sense cracks in the upcoming lineup.

Keep in mind, I'm looking at this from a sales perspective (I'm on VGchartz after all).  I know I'll buy a Switch and love many of these games, but to sell 100 million Switches they need outstanding first-party software.  Wii know they can do it!  Let me know if I missed anything.

ARMS - seems to be having a so-so launch, I don't expect this to do much.  It is nice to see Nintendo try a new IP, though.

Splatoon 2 - looks fine.  I can't figure out what makes this better than the first game, but Japan loves it, and I think it'll be interesting to see if this can do bigger numbers on Switch than Wii U.  I'm not worried about it.

Mario Odyssey - I am worried about this one.  Nintendo really should be going 2D with Mario, the proof is in the sales figures.  I was giving Odyssey the benefit of the doubt because Nintendo made great strides in open world with Zelda, but I think the game might have serious issues with the cornball theme song and strange mix reality and fantasy.  Nintendo needs Mario to perform, they have no other guaranteed hits until Pokemon.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - This will add some nice variety to the lineup, but we know this isn't a system seller.

Fire Emblem Warriors - Good for Japan, but not a system seller globally.

Metroid Prime 4 - this will add some needed variety to the lineup, but I'm concerned to hear it's not coming from Retro.

Pokemon - nice, it will ensure great sales for a while as long as they deliver.

This is where it gets risky - does anyone think MP4 or Pokemon will be out first half of 2018? If not, what will carry momentum through next year?  I have little faith in the 2017 game lineup to do that job (Zelda and Mario Kart maybe, but they'll be a year old).  Ironically, I think Skyrim and maybe Rocket League will do as much to save Switch in 2018 than anything Nintendo has scheduled.

Your critiques just seem bizarre. 3D Mario is huge! Not sure why you are worried about that, its one of the most sure things Nintendo has. No doubt they'll release a 2D Mario as well eventually. Given the success of the first game, splatoon 2 will probably get huge sales. And there will be plenty of smaller first party and third party games in between Mario and whenever Metroid and Pokemon come out. Not sure why you are so concerned. Also Pokemon is going to be absolutely HUGE!!! That game alone will drive many millions of Switch sales, especially in Japan. I am very interested though in what sort of game it will be. Will it just be a 3D topdown version of all past pokemon games, or will they completely change it and make it some fully 3D open world adventure with top notch graphics? who knows. Will be very interesting. As for me I'm very excited about the Switch lineup, seems like you are trying to make a big deal over nothing.

Really? According to Metacritic Nintendo is consistently the publisher that releases more games (not counting different SKUs of the same game, of course) each year. I'm pretty sure they'll be OK in that regard.

Yeah, I think this worry is unmerited as well. Looking at the 1st year alone, their line up is already shaping up to be quite excellent. Nintendo already started the system with Breath of the Wild, which we've seen was already quite huge, and they'll be delivering another one with Mario Odyssey later this year. Sprinkle in games like Mario Kart 8, ARMS, Splatoon 2, FE Warriors, and Xenoblade 2 (if it comes out) and that is already quite a packed in 1st year. That's not even including 3rd party titles, which have also been present. We were already given a glimpse of what's ahead, like Yoshi, Kirby and Fire Emblem. I figure Nintendo will continue showing more titles in the later months. They don't often show games way ahead of, but as they draw in closer. Metroid 4 and Pokemon are exceptions, more so to dispel certain concerns.
