Well, really, "Mario" is just a skin they can put on anything they want. Tennis, racing, party games, happy meal toys ... whatever. I wouldn't exactly call that magic. It's the same thing Disney did with Mickey Mouse for decades, where they disregarded continuity so they could reuse the same assets in many different situations and scenarios.

Weren't the New Super Mario Bros. games basically meant to replicate Super Mario World? They made 4 of those! I'd love an HD remake of Super Mario 64, but it'll probably never happen.

How about a remaster?

I love all the 2D Marios and would be cool if we had a remaster of Mario 1-3 just with new skins like how Capcom did with SF HD remix. Still the same game but with a new skin.

No. I still think its a remake. It had completly redone graphics and even 30 new stars. Also you could play as Yoshi!. (And Luigi and Wario I guess)

we just got Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

and soon we will be getting Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga & Bowser's Minions

but im actually fine with this decision, just put them on VC and were good

Star Fox 64 and Zero are not remakes.

They basically are. There are some differences and extra things added, but it's the same story of the original.

Mario 64 was remade and in my opinion, was far worse than the original, so I agree, though I would be ok with strictly graphical upgrades, like with Mario All Stars.

A game using essentially using the original code is not a remake. I see the DS release as updated version. Updates and and improvments are not remakes.

Ratchet and Clank is true remake. Inspired by the original but built from the ground up.
